SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE

Simple Present Tense


is when we use a verb to tell about things that
happen continually/repeatedly/habit in the present,
like every day, every week, or every month.
 to tell/explain a fact about something.
 To express a command.
The Pattern Of Simple Present Tenses
Pattern Example
Nominal/Non Verbal +) I am a student
S + tobe (am, is, are) + O / C -) I am not a student
?) Are you a student?
?) Am I a student?

Verbal +) I study at SMA N 1 Ngadirojo


S + V1(+es/s) + O / C -) I don’t study at SMA N 1 Ngadirojo
?) Do you study at SMA N 1 Ngadirojo?
?) Where do you study?

+) He studies at SMA N 1 Ngadirojo


-) He does not study at SMA N 1 Ngadirojo
?) Does He study at SMA N 1 Ngadirojo?
we should use the verb “be”. The verb be, in present tense is realized into three
variants: am, is, are.

The form of spelling the verb in the third person (She, He, It), depending on the verb ending
(verb).

1. For verbs ending in -O, -CH, -SH, -X, or -Z, add -ES.

• go – goes
• catch – catches
• wash – washes
• kiss – kisses
• box – boxes
• fix – fixes

2. For verbs (Verb) that end in the + Y consonant, omit the Y and add -
IES.

• carry – carries

3. For verbs that end in the vowel + Y, just add -S.

• play – plays
• say – says
• enjoy – enjoys
Change into Negative and Interrogative Form.

4. Indonesia has thirty-four provinces, from Sabang to Merauke.
