Before the invasion of Taliban Afghanistan was a
peaceful country men and women worked girls and
boys went to school restaurants and places to go out
was available you can walk around the streets safely
but things took a turn after the invasion of Taliban
girls were not allowed to go out or even go to school
girls could not walk out on the streets alone without a
man and wearing a burqa which was hard to see from
and walk in as they would trip. houses were
destroyed there was lack of food and water you now
had to be cautious walking on the streets mother had
to leave work father lost a leg due to an explosion in
the high school he worked in
02 What is Parvana’: father’s view about education? What does
this say about him? Why do you think the thinks that way?
Parvana’s father views education as a very important and
necessary thing. While many families in Afghanistan have
extremely unfair views and believe that woman and girls
don’t have the right to earn an education and that they’re
better off at home instead, Parvana’s father believes the
opposite, that everyone should get an education no matter
their gender. He mentions how he would rather see Parvana
running across a school yard instead of getting tea to
markets. This shows how Parvana’s father is a well educated
man, how he doesn’t view education as something that a
woman doesn’t deserve and doesn’t agree with many Afghans
view on the matter. I believe he thinks that way because he
had the option of studying in England. A place where many
woman get and education to become lawyers, doctors and
more which made him realize that woman are just as capable
as men.

• Who is malali what do you think she symbolize
Parvanas father was escorted out of his family home by the Taliban soldiers and was
arrested .I think the Taliban may have arrested him for his knowledge helping
people read and write and Taliban would not want him to help girls especially as
they are seen only to stay at home and do house work Mother is brave even though
she knew the risks of going outside without a man would be a bad idea but she still
made a decision to go save her husband and not to lose hope
