Life after

death
Monday 1st March 2021
What do we believe?
• When a person passes away, it is the end of their life in the Dunya. However, in terms of
the Aakhirah, their real and eternal life has just begun.
• We (Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa’) believe that every human and every creature has a soul
and that soul has been travelling since it was created.
• The first place each soul visits is ‘Alam al-arwah and it stays there till a person is born.
• The Prophet (SAW) said: “The souls were gathered together. The souls which
familiarised with one another (in A’lam al-arwah) bonded (in this world). The souls
which clashed with one another (in ‘Alam al-arwah) differed (in the world).
• This tells us that those souls which got along in ‘Alam al-arwah will also bond in the
world and those that clashed will differ in the world.
What happens after ‘Alam Al-
Arwah?
• It takes 40 days to form in the womb, then we become a clot of thick
blood for about the same time, then a piece of flesh for about the same
time.
• Then Allah sends an angel who is ordered to write 4 things about that
person.
• 1. His deeds 2. His livelihood 3. His death 4. His fate in religion
(fortunate or wretched)
• Finally the soul is breathed into the womb of our mother (the body she
is carrying)
What is the life of barzakh?
• Allah mentions in the Quran: “And ahead of them is Barzakh (a barrier) until the Day when they
will be resurrected.” (Quran 23:100)
• Barzakh life is a temporary stay of the soul between the world and the next. After Barzakh, our
soul will be transferred to its eternal place: either Jannah or Jahannam.
• We believe that the both our bodies and souls will experience pleasure or pain in Barzakh. If
they are destined to enter Jannah, then the bodies and soul will be blessed. If the person is
destined to enter Jahannam, then the body and soul will face punishment.
• Despite the manner a person died, we will all enter the life of Barzakh
• There are different places souls will be in Barzakh. i.e. Different places of Jannah or Jahannam.
• “The grave is a garden from the gardens of paradise or a pit from the pits of hell.” – Nabi (SAW)
The day of judgement
• We believe on this day, every person will be accountable for their
actions in the world.
• It is the day where Allah will the judge alone!
• This day will determine what our eternal home will be.
Activity time!
