• The aim of this presentation is to accomplish the goal
by providing the detailed information about all the
given topics. To make rehabilitation more effective
for trans-tibial amputee.
 Trans tibial prosthesis
what is prosthesis?
Prosthesis is a greck word and its mean attachment or addition. A
prosthesis is an artificial replacement for any or all parts of the lower
or upper extremities, it is a device that is designed to replace, as much
as possible, the function or appearance of a missing limb or body part.

Function
Prosthesis provides an amputee
mobility, stability and a good
cosmetic appearance.

1. PASSIVE PROSTHESIS 2. FUNCTINAL PROSTHESIS

TRANS TIBIAL PROSTHESIS (cont.)
• DEFINATION:-
• Its is the type of functional prosthesis.
• It is an artificial device that replaces a missing body part lost
through trauma, disease, or congenital conditions.

• FUNCTION

Its also provides an amputee

mobility, stability and a good
cosmetic appearance.
Stages of Trans-Tibial Prosthesis
• There are three type of trans-tibial prosthesis.
1. Initial .
2. Temporary .
3. Definitive .

• Initial prosthesis
• It is provided just after surgery when wound healing is secured.

• DEFINITVE PROSTHESIS
• It is provided or made aproximately 3-6 months after surgery.
• It provide for two main principle:
1) Effective weight trasmission
2) Adequate suspension.
• In this prosthesis we use different type of socket and suspension.

 Types Of TRANS TIBIAL Prosthesis
• History of prosthesis
• In old time , people use crushes,bomboo limb and some other
prosthesis which is made up of aluminum,wood and moulded leather .

Now, all this prosthesis is replace by PTB prosthesis.

• PTB prosthesis
• It is designed by University of California in 1958.
• Socket is made up of laminated or molded plastic.
• Soft in-liner is composed of tape foam or silicon gel.
• we use used leather as for making suspension belt.

• Advantages of PTB
• More intimate fit is provided.
• it is aTotal contact socket and its increases the area for
weight bearing.
• It reduces edema.
• Easy to apply and use
• Disadvantage of PTB
• the intimate fit is the disadvantage for diabetic, chronic
cardiac and patients on diuretic.

• SOCKET
• Socket commonly use in PTB are:
1. PTB socket
2. Prosthesis tibiale supracondylienne(PTS)
3. Kondylen buttlung munster (KBM) etc.

Socket design are determine by pressure –sensitive and pressure-
tolerate of the below knee stump as show in the figure:
