In roles :

The film premiered on November 19, 1975 at the Chicago Film Festival. In the history of cinematography, the picture became the
second to receive Oscars in five of the most prestigious nominations.
Until now, this achievement belonged only to "It Happened at Night" (1934).
The film repeated the same success at the Golden Globe Awards - for the first time in the history of cinema.
The film, which tells about the drama that happened within the walls of the psychiatric clinic, was almost entirely filmed in a
hospital of the appropriate profile in the state of Oregon.
The audience received the film warmly only in the USA the income exceeded 100 million dollars.
Critics praised the direction and acting of the actors and recognized the film as one of the
most important events of the "New Wave" of American cinema of the 1970s.
The film takes place in 1963. Criminal Randall Patrick McMurphy (Jack
Nicholson) is taken from prison to a psychiatric clinic for examination.
Once on the ward, McMurphy is met with a strict agenda set by head
nurse Mildred Ratched ( Louise Fletcher) established, which, along with
interference in patients' private lives during group therapy, causes
McMurphy's protest. He does not understand why even not very
healthy people tolerate such treatment from the staff. He consults with
the staff, with his organization, a gambling corner is formed in the
department; he is holding a vote to change the schedule and allow
patients to watch the baseball World Series on television.
After a failed vote, he becomes close to a chronically ill patient - a tall
and strong American Indian called "Chief" who everyone thinks is deaf
and dumb. McMurphy also organizes an escape from the hospital and
goes fishing with the patients.
During the consultation, the doctors think that McMurphy is a simulant
and should be returned to prison.
However, according to Nurse Ratched, he should stay in the ward.
Forced into the hospital, McMurphy suddenly discovers that most of
the patients are in the hospital of their own free will, and therefore his
attacks on the nurses' rules are pointless. Realizing that he might end
up in the hospital for a long time, McMurphy decides to run away.
Before the novel "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's
Nest" hit the screens, it was staged in the theater. On the Broadway stage,
McMurphy was played by Kirk Douglas.

He bought the film rights from Ken Keyes for $20,000. Kirk passed the film rights
to his son Michael Douglas. Kirk thought that Michael would give the role of
McMurphy to his father in the film, but Michael felt that his father was too old
for the role. For this reason, father and son did not talk to each other for a long
time.
• 3 Interesting facts about “One Flew Over the Cuckoo's
Nest”:

1. Although Ken Keyes was initially actively involved in the film adaptation
of his novel published in 1962, he left the film crew two weeks into the
work and even filed a lawsuit against the producers. Keyes didn't like a
lot of things, but especially the fact that Gene Hackman was cast as
Randle McMurphy instead of Jack Nicholson. He was also unhappy that,
unlike in the book, the narrator should no longer be Chief Bromden. One
heartbreaking story tells how many years later, Ken Keese happened to
catch the movie on TV and liked what he saw, but quickly turned it off
when he realized what he was watching.
2. The episodic roles of the film feature real participants of the psychiatric
clinic.
3. The title of the film is a phrase taken from a children's folklore, a
humorous poem, the full version of which is as follows:

Vintery, mintery, cutery, corn,

Apple seed and apple thorn;
Wire, briar, limber lock,
Three geese in a flock.
One flew east,
And one flew west,
And one flew over the cuckoo’s nest.

wrote that it was Jack Nicholson's top class performance.
"When you watch McMurphy for 133 minutes, you realize
you've lost a friend, but at the same time you're glad you
didn't really know him."
"Oscar-winning"
actress Anjelica Huston only participates in a mass scene in this film and appears in one episode.
