THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM AND
FUNCTIONS OF EACH PARTS

JAPHETH L. BARALIN
At the end of the lesson, the
students must be able to:
• Identify the importance of the
circulatory and functions of each
different parts.
Objectives • Drawing of a circulatory system
with the label ofdifferent parts.
• Express appreciation by showing
active participation in the lesson.
The Circulatory System

The circulatory system consists of

the heart, capillaries, arteries and
veins. While arteries carry blood
away from the heart, the veins (in
most cases) carry blood back to the
heart.
The capillaries facilitate the exchange of oxygen and nutrients to the cell
and the tissues get sufficient oxygen, nutrients and helps in removing
metabolic waste products as well.
HEART
The circulatory system
consists of several different
circulatory circuits these are :
• Pulmonary circuit - circulates the
blood between the heart and the lungs.
• Systemic circuit - is responsible for
circulating blood between the heart and
the body.
• Coronary circuit - controls the flow of
blood from the heart to the heart itself.
PULMONARY ARTERY
Pulmonary arteries are two major arteries
coming from the right ventricle of the
heart. It’s job is to carry low –oxygen
blood from the heart to the lungs.
SUPERIOR VENA
CAVA
• Veins are tubular, hollow structures
that form part of the
• circulatory system of the body; in most
instances, veins carry DE-oxygenated
blood toward the heart.
• The superior vena cava (SVC) is one of
the two largest veins in the body and is
considered one of the many systemic
veins.
• Measures .78 inches in diameter and
2.7 inches in length
PULMONARY VEINS
Pulmonary veins collect oxygen rich
blood from your lungs and carry it to
your heart. Many different conditions
can affect your pulmonary veins,
including ones that you’re born with
and others that develop later in life.
Pulmonary veins are also the place
where atrial fibrillation begins. So,
they’re often the target of A-Fib
treatment.
RIGHT ATRIUM

Two large veins deliver oxygen-

poor blood to your right atrium.
The superior vena cava carries
blood from your upper body. The
inferior vena cava brings blood
from the lower body. Then the
right atrium pumps the blood to
your right ventricle.
LEFT ATRIUM
Two large veins deliver
oxygen- poor blood to your
right atrium. The superior
vena cava carries blood from
your upper body. The inferior
vena cava brings blood from
the lower body. Then the right
atrium pumps the blood to
your right ventricle.
PULMONARY VALVE
Opens when blood flows
from your right ventricle to
your pulmonary arteries (the
only arteries that carry
oxygen- poor blood to your
lungs).
TRICUSPID VALVE

Door between your right atrium

and right ventricle.
RIGHT VENTRICLE
The lower right chamber
pumps the oxygen-poor
blood to your lungs through
the pulmonary artery. The
lungs reload blood with
oxygen.
LEFT VENTRICLE

The Left Ventricle is

slightly larger than
the right. It pumps
rich oxygen blood
from the rest of the
body
MITRAL VALVE

Door between the Left Atrium

and the Left Ventricle
AORTIC VALVE

It opens when blood

flows out of the left
ventricle to the aorta.
AORTA

The aorta carries oxygenated

blood from the left ventricle of
the heart to the rest of the body.
It is the largest artery in the
body, measuring more than 1
inch across in some places.
SEPTUM
A healthy septum is
important for the proper
functioning of the heart.
The septum helps to keep
the rich-oxygen blood
from the lungs from
mixing with poor-oxygen
blood from the body
ACTIVITY : FIXED THE JUMBLE

INSTRUCTION:
Group yourself in to five and I will give
you a whiteboard and a pen
What you need to do is wright the correct
word of the given jumbled letters and raise
your answer at the count of five
