What is a fossil?
Fossils are organic remains left by animals and plants millions of years ago and still remain to this day. A fossil is
capable of guiding us through time to make sense of Earth's history. These remains of organisms from bygone eras
tend to be preserved attached to sedimentary rocks and show us what the inhabitants of the Earth were like
millions of years ago and even what their customs were thanks to the fossils in which the trace of activity on Earth
has been recorded. they. Therefore, the question of what is a fossil serves to answer where do we come from?
Training:

How is a fossil formed?

Far from what it may seem due to the large number of fossils that are preserved today, the formation of a fossil is a very surprising event
since when an animal or a plant dies it tends to be food for others, not to be preserved for millions of years. years. Nature is always trying to
feed itself, so keeping an animal for millions of years instead of supporting those that come after is a most remote feature, so how do you
form a fossil?
There are several ways in which the formation of a fossil can occur.
Sedimentation. When an animal or an insect dies, the sediments end up burying its remains, especially its exoskeleton, which is the most
resistant to time. In order for this exoskeleton to be preserved without modifications over millions of years, it will be necessary for
sedimentation to occur as soon as possible. An early ground shift is a good option to make this happen
Foundry :This form of fossilization originates above all negative impression molds of organisms. These impressions can be exterior or interior
and above all they have preserved shells of different animals to this day
Mineralization : Water can also preserve a body, for this the ideal would be for the living being to rush into the water when it dies or already
faint in it. Many of the water-dwelling organisms can eat the outer parts of the body but not the hard skeleton.
Carbonization: Everyone knows that life is based on carbon, so this is also a form of fossilization. The volatile substances such as oxygen and
hydrogen that accumulate in the bodies of living beings are lost and a layer of carbon remains that will be in charge of conserving the remains
of the organism in the form of a footprint.
Types :

Types of fossils:
The remains of animals and plants that are preserved in good condition to this day after the
passage of millions of years are called fossils, but the remains of activities that are preserved from
these individuals are also known as fossils. Thus, and although an extensive classification is
documented, these are the two main types of fossils that agglomerate all the different subtypes:
Individual fossils: They are those formed by an animal or plant. In most cases they will not be made
up of a whole organism, but a part of it that has been fossilized, such as a bone, leaf, jaw or skin.
Activity fossils: It is the trace of the activity that living beings have left and has remained until today
in the form of footprints or nests printed in different moulds, so they are foundry fossils.
The discovery of fossils changes and has changed our way of seeing life. The amount of information
that a fossil gathers within it has made us discover data about our planet from past times that we
could not have discovered in any other way.
