between the British and the French in the United States
and Canada. The British finally prevailed, but with
border changes and financial suffering
WRITING WORKSHOP
1. continues the argumentative text in
which the following idea is developed:
“The consequences of the war in France and India”

The French and Indian War left consequences for the American colonists that they were
unwilling to bear. The American colonists protested the taxes at the end of the war and the
British government eliminated them; however, the British government thought it still had the
power to tax the settlers, so they voted for another tax

Text:
"Fighting the French and Indian War was very expensive for the British government. After
the war, they placed British soldiers in former French forts, which was also expensive. To
help pay for the soldiers, the British government decided to start taxing the American
colonists, who had never been taxed before. The colonists had only been taxed by their own
governments. The first taxes were the Sugar Act of 1763 and the Stamp Act of 1764. The
Americans did not believe the taxes were fair because they had no elected representatives in
the British government."
