What is a Database?

A database is an organized
collection of related data, typically
stored electronically in a computer
system.
Centralized Database

 A centralized database is a type of

database system in which all data is
stored and managed in a single
location, typically on a central server.
This allows for easier management
and control of the data.
Types of Centralized DB

There are different kinds of centralized database including:

1. Relational database:
2. Object-orientated database:
3. Data warehouse:
They are commonly used in large enterprise, government agencies and
other organization where there is a need for a single source of data.
Advantages of centralized DB

• Data consistency
With a centralized database, all data is stored in one location, ensuring consistency and
reducing the risk of data discrepancies.
• Security:
Centralized databases can be easier to secure, as there is only one location to protect and
monitor for potential security breaches.
• Cost-effective:
Centralized databases can be more cost-effective to maintain and manage, as resources
are concentrated in one location.
Disadvantage of centralized DB

• Single point of failure:

If the centralized database experiences an issue or outage, it can disrupt access to all data and
systems that rely on it.
• Performance bottleneck:
A centralized database can become a performance bottleneck as the volume of data and user access
increases, leading to slower response times and potential system crashes.
• 3. Scalability limitations:
Centralized databases may have limitations in terms of scalability, making it challenging to
accommodate rapid growth or changes in data storage needs.
