CRITICAL EQUIPMENT UTILIZATION & CENTRALIZATION

OF PORTABLE EQUIPMENT IN RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT

IN A MULTISPECIALITY HOSPITAL

PAVITHRA J
G0220016
INTRODUCTION
Radiology and imaging services is central to the clinical practice of medicine across a
wide range of disciplines.

The major components of radiology/imaging services are: Radiography (X-ray

machines), Mammography, Computed tomography (CT scan), Ultrasound and Color
Doppler and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). This acts as a big source of revenue
generation for a hospital.

 It is essential to ensure maximum utilization of the equipment with minimum

downtime.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
To assess the utilization of the various imaging equipment’s in the Hospital and compare
it with recommended standards and also to identify key areas for improvement.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

To study the utilization pattern of high-end, capital-intensive equipment’s.
To find the utilization coefficient of these equipment’s individually during the year
2021 for 12 months.
METHODOLOGY
RESEARCH DESIGN

The present study is a “Retrospective” study design as it uses the existing data that have been recorded for reasons
other than research by the organization.

SOURCES OF INFORMATION

The study majorly relies on secondary data. The data will be obtained from:
 Database of MGM Healthcare through Kranium Software.

 Records and Registers maintained by Radiology department.

Data Points Required: Number of Exams, Exam duration, Total operational time and Total Idle time.

Interpretation:
The chart represents utilization trend of BMD machine. 51.35% and 51.30% was the highest utilization that was reported in
the month of September 2021 and July 2021 respectively.
The least utilized month was May 2021 with a utilization percentage of 0.19%.
SUGGESTIONS

The analysis revealed that the utilization trend for Mammogram and Bone Mineral Density for the time period

of study was lower than the standard benchmarking, thus it is recommended to bring in packages at low cost and

offers so as to enhance the number of patients coming to Radiology department.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

 The major limitation of the study is minimum time period of two month.

 Due to limited access to revenue data opportunity loss was not found.

 Since the time and data is not available it wasn’t possible to forecast the utilization for the upcoming year.
