Introduction
 Public Bicycle Sharing (PBS)
systems are a flexible public
transport service that involves the
creation of a dense network of
cycle stations. Users can check out
a cycle from any station and return
it to any other station in the
system. The station where the
cycle is returned need not be the
original station from where the
cycle was borrowed.
Example World Wide
 PBS systems have evolved a lot since the first system, "White Bicycles" was launched in
Amsterdam in 1965.

Although PBS systems have now been around for more than 3 decades, the concept gained
worldwide popularity only after the launch of the first third generation systems, such as Velo'v in
Lyon, France in 2005, and Velib in Paris, France in 2007 . These systems generated a large
interest in PBS across the world and led to an exponential increase in the number of systems
launched worldwide.
Benefits of Public Bicycle Sharing
PBS systems provide complimentary services to existing Public Transport systems like Buses and
Metro by providing last mile connectivity.

This in turn helps in increasing the reach of these Public Transport systems in an inexpensive manner
to regions where it is not feasible to extend these services.

Biking is great for the environment because it allows people to travel without releasing toxins and
burning fuel. People who utilize bike sharing programs might use them instead of their own car or an
Uber or taxi to travel around their area

A Greater embrace of cycling: As a community has more cyclists traveling the roads, they make
changes to benefit the growing population. Bike lanes are built, and laws are written to protect
cyclists. Having more cyclists on the road also means that drivers become more familiar with sharing
the road with cyclists. Drivers learn to respect the rights of cyclists, and the streets become safer for
all.
Disadvantages
 It consumes more time as compared to
other transportation facilities.
 In our country, every state has different
weather conditions For Example due to
Indian Road Geometry water logging is the
main problem for bicycle users
 Due to Heterogeneous traffic there are
several serious problems regarding safety
which disturbs Individual to communicate
one place to another with bicycle.

How it Works ?
 Dense network of cycle stations.
 Custom designed cycles which are
designed for heavy use,
mechanical reliability, sturdiness
and Stability.
 Smart Card Access to the system
for the user.
 Pricing structures that incentivise
short trips, helping to maximize
the number of trips per cycle per
day. (Encouraging Last mile
connectivity)
How it Works ?
Real time monitoring of station occupancy
rates to help with redistribution of cycles
Real time user information provided
through various platforms, including the
web, mobile phones, and/or on-site
terminals.
Advertising space on cycles and at
stations.
(provides revenue
generation options for system operator
city)
How it Works ?
 Fully automated self-service terminals at
stations.
 A fully automated locking system at
stations that allows users to check cycles
in or out using smart cards, without the
need for staffing at the station.
 Radio frequency identification devices
(RFIDs) to track where a cycle is picked
up, where it is returned, and the identity
of the user.
Costs and Rentals
Costs will be ₹7 per hour and it will increase while using a bicycle with the cost of ₹5 every
hour which will be more affordable for every individual in the society.
 If any major maintenance or repairing will occur then the Service Centre Executive will
make decision and deal with the customer.
This Chapter covers the various costs involved in the project. Based on the total cost,
the profitability of the project is assessed.
 Details of the various types of costs are discussed in the subsequent section.
The project cost is further broken down into capital costs and operating costs which are
discussed in details in the sections given.
Cost
 Cost of Bicycles.
 Cost of Shifting Vehicles.
 Cost of Web Sites and Mobile App.
 Cost of Marketing.
 Cost of Contingency.
 Cost of PMC. (Project Management Consultancy)
Questionnaire Survey
A Questionnaire Survey was conducted a month ago with the help of google form which
was circulated in various groups of social media, which helps us to generate more
response for this Project.
We got around 1200 response from which we took some main subjects like :-
 Communicating from one place to another.
 Choices of every individual for transportation.
 Some places in Vadodara in which people gave responses.
From Survey
• Also by interviewing students, it is clear that the students are willing to use cycles mainly from
metro station, girls hostel, nearby PG’s and overall for traveling a short distance.
•By cycling, one can improve their health and it improves access and mobility charges and saves
cost and it helps in better use of public space and good combination with public transport and
stronger local and national economies.

Salient Features
 Easy to use and adaptable to
various users. Seat height should
be adjustable and the cycle
should have a unisex step up the
frame so that people of all
heights can use it.
 Heavier than regular bicycles,
weighing between 16 and 23 kg.
The weight makes bicycles stable
and easy for riding.
 Front basket to carry personal
items.
Features
 Enclosed chain to prevent breakage.
Puncture resistant tires to give a less
maintenance system
Reflective strips on the wheels,
integrated front lights, frame color which
is bright and a bell to provide safety of the
cyclist.
 Drum brakes in the front and the back
for easier maintenance.
 A high tech station provides water
coolers and benches for users.
Conclusion
• Given the transportation option available from the near the activity hotspots, we can say that
PBS will be a cheaper better and more convenient option for travel among student.
•Also, travel can be done and later more cycles installed or to make it open the people who are
not a student of PES, like to extend to nearby colleges, pedestrians, schools, bus stop, etc.
•College owned, private operating systems will be implemented.
•The proper inquiry, serves were done to students the was considered and analyzed as a result
parking hub will be installed at hotspots to increase utilization rate.
•The bicycle tracks, the parking hubs, the maintenance of bicycles will be done and will be
maintained to make the PBS system efficient, useful, and safe
