INTRODUCTION
Most organizations have to wrestle with what type of computers they will provide for their
staff:
• Should they provide desktops? What about laptops?
• Apple or Windows?
• What are the pros and cons of each?
• Which staff need non-standard computers with unique items?

GOAL
Your business needs to purchase new desktop computers for a number of different office
staff. Computers are typically replaced on a four-year rotation. Your boss has gotten approval
from the finance department to spend $1,200 per computer. The preference is a desktop as
the majority of staff don’t need to be mobile and prices can be a bit cheaper as well. The
computer needs to be able to run basic desktop publishing software like Microsoft Office,
connect to a printer and the network, etc. The company primarily uses Windows computers
except for departments that do graphic design or video production where they use Apple
products.

1. Go to https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ and build a computer with monitor that will fulfill

your $1,200 budget. Consider which parts are more/less important. Don’t just go cheap
but consider the quality as well where possible.

2. Provide a screen shot of your computer build.

3. Write a 200-word paragraph about your strategy. Which parts did you spend more? Which
parts did you not worry about? Which parts were more expensive/cheaper than you
expected?
