The invention of aircraft and among them, mainly that of airplanes, shortened the distances of the planet. In some way it could even be said that it made our planet smaller and
today in a matter of a few hours one can cover enormous distances that in the past would take days or even months.

As we well know, we owe this in large measure to the brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright, who never stopped dreaming of one day being able to fly. That dream would becom
a reality in the year 1903, but it was not taken into account until in 1927, after several improvements, the engineer and aviator Charles Lindberg in his Spirit of St.Louis dared
to cross the Atlantic Ocean on his own, for the first time on a plane.
In 1928, the Scotsman Sir Alexander Fleming discovered the antibiotic capabilities of penicillin present in the fungus
Penicillium chrysogenum and until then, the slightest medical error, an infection or any type of injury, could become a huge
and fatal problem.

His discovery brought important advances in medicine, health and people's quality of life. Since then, all kinds of antibiotics
have been developed, all kinds of infections have been treated, and the mortality rate has dropped greatly.
The enormous development of electronics, as well as the invention and widespread use of household appliances, had a
crucial impact on the way we live today, on our quality of life and on how we appreciate reality.
The invention and development of devices such as refrigerators, electric stoves, washing machines and many others, brought
great comfort to humanity, as well as the possibility of having more leisure time.
This can be translated in a very simple way, from these advances man has more time to dedicate to the development of new
knowledge, technologies, arts, etc.
Various investigations around nuclear energy, in which some of the greatest
scientists in history participated (from Becquerel or Marie Curie to Otto Hahn,
among others), began to be carried out since the end of the 19th century.
Until the 20th century, man, using the means available to him, had studied different aspects of space, observed the skies,
dreaming and speculating that one day he might be able to understand or even access that place and finally exceed the limits
of the atmosphere.
With the scientific and technological advances of the 20th century, those dreams began to take shape and thanks to the
invention of the rocket, in 1969 man stepped on the moon and reached a celestial body for the first time in history.
This is a question that always generates a lot of controversy and that deserves discussion. Since the invention of the radio or
television, the computer and the Internet (two of the most emblematic inventions of the 20th century), the world has never
been so small.
Nowadays, thinking of a world without computers is completely disastrous. While using a calculator, cash register, security
system, or almost any type of electronic device, you are using computer technology.
If we think about the numerous investigations that are carried out through the use of computers, or even the fact that you are
now reading this on one of them, among many other things, we cannot argue that this was one of the most important
advances of the Last century.
In 1928, the English bacteriologist, physician and geneticist Frederick Griffiths took the first to concrete steps along the path
of what we now call genetics, developing some of the knowledge we have today about the structure of deoxyribonucleic acid.

With his research, he was able to determine that DNA contains the genetic instructions that determine the characteristics of
living beings and that they are also responsible for their own genetic inheritance. Since then, the development of genetics has
had almost no limits.
During the 20th century, great advances occurred in the field of contraception and the fight against sexually transmitted
diseases. This is a fundamental fact in the very development of humanity.

Contraceptive methods such as the pill for women and latex condoms for both sexes brought sexual freedom, fewer health
risks, greater choice, allowed to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies and most importantly: the possibility of having
sexual relations only for pleasure.
The development of the theory of relativity formulated by Albert Einstein at the beginning of the 20th century laid the foundations of modern
nuclear physics and allowed the subsequent development of numerous advances in quantum physics.

On the other hand, the approach of the cosmic model developed in the Big Bang theory allowed humanity to get rid once and for all of the old and
oppressive model of creationism with a solid base and from the sciences.

Currently the theory continues to be investigated and a clear example is the experimental development of the particle accelerator.
I know it may seem very unserious friends and that's why I left it last, on this list we had serious moments and I invited you
to reflect on how the inventions and different advances of the 20th century transformed us into what we are today. So, let's
go! Who hasn't ever enjoyed video games? How many moments of our childhood did he know how to decorate?
From the old consoles that began to appear around 1950, from those almost archaic Atari video games to the amazing Wii
from Nintendo, the Xbox from Microsoft or the PS3 from Sony, the world of video games is an essential part of the fun of
millions of people in the world and where would we be without fun?
Once again, we are faced with an invention that arose at the end of the 19th century but was not developed until the 20th
century. In the first years of the new century, what the engine would be like was defined and chain production began with the
Ford T. Today we are incapable of imagining a society without this means of transport.
This is another of the most important inventions of the 20th century that could not
fail. Modern life would not be understood without the personal computers that are
used at work and at home, but neither would it be without systems made up of
servers and complex machines. It was in the decade of the 40s when the first
electronic computers appeared, capable of the most basic tasks. From then on,
programmable electronic devices have been so important that the 20th century
could be called the Computer Age.
