COURSE INTRODUCTION

 Title: Social Service

 Course Code: SS-304
In today's world, we encounter a greater variety of perspectives, cultures and communities than ever
 before. This is partly the result of globalization, through which people and countries have become
increasingly connected culturally, politically and economically. The Social Service course is designed
to enable the sharing of ideas, support, information and advice from start to finish. Throughout the
course of the program students will learn different aspects of getting a project up and running.
The Social service course predicts a world in which increasing connections lead to positive outcomes. A
world where people feel empowered to engage peaceably and effectively with others in the sustainable
development of their communities.

LECTURE TOPICS

 Individual’s capacity as an agent of change in the community, decision makers and the ways decision-
makers affect participant’s lives and shape society
SOCIAL SERVICE

 Social Service means programs designed to help people resolve problems,

become more self-sufficient, prevent dependency, strengthen family relationships,
and/or enhance the functioning of individuals in society.
 Social Service means work rendered by a person, firm, corporation, organization,
governmental body, or governmental entity in maintenance of the general welfare
of the citizens.
 An activity designed to promote social well-being
 Social services consist of facilities and services such as: public education,
welfare, infrastructure, mail, libraries, social work, food banks, universal health
care, police, fire services, public transportation and public housing. 6
AGENT OF CHANGE IN THE COMMUNITY

 An agent of change is someone who sees a problem in their community, large or

small, and does something to take action for substantial change.
 This person is someone who listens to the people in the community where the issue
exists and makes sure that they truly understand the root of the problem before
implementing a new idea.
 This person is someone who is willing to take risks and doesn’t always claim to know
the answer.
 They are willing to ask hard questions and help find creative solutions.
 An agent of change has the courage to think outside the box and makes an impact that
is greater than themself.
CHANGE AGENT IN A BUSINESS

 In business, a change agent is an individual who promotes and supports a new way of
doing something within the company, whether it's the use of a new process, the
adoption of a new management structure or the transformation of an old business
model to a new one.
WHAT CHANGE AGENTS DO

• Promoting the value of the transformation that is being undertaken by the

organization;
• Formulating how the transformation will happen;
• Guiding and supporting others through the transformation; and
• Ensuring that the new processes, procedures, structures, etc., are implemented in
ways that deliver the expected value that the organizational change was to produce.
DECISION MAKERS

 Decision-makers are people within a company who have the power to make strategic
decisions like acquisitions, expansion, or investment.
 As changes occur, a company needs leaders to make effective business decisions.
These decision-makers work to determine the best solutions for their company to aid
growth and overall success.
 A major part of decision-making, involves the analysis of a finite set of alternatives
described in terms of evaluative criteria.
 A decision maker is the person or group of individuals who is responsible for making
strategically important decisions based on a number of variables, including time
constraints, resources available, the amount and type of information available and the
number of stakeholders involved.
WHO ARE DECISION-MAKERS IN A COMPANY?

 A decision-maker is an employee, usually in leadership, who makes challenging

decisions that impact how the company operates.
 Employees who are strong decision-makers know how to effectively problem solve
and use critical thinking skills that help find solutions to problems.
 They can effectively weigh possible options and decide on the outcome that best
benefits the company and its employees.
IMPORTANCE OF DECISION MAKING

 Our decisions affect people. Nearly every decision we make will affect different
people in one way or another. It's important to be aware of the influence our decisions
will have, and understand what the "human cost" will be.
 The decisions we make demonstrate our values.
 Our decisions will set an example for those who follow us.
 Not deciding is a decision in itself.
HOW DECISION MAKING IMPACTS AN ORGANIZATION

 Decision making makes a huge impact on an organization.

 It can either propel it forward and into success. Or it can destroy the company’s value.
The worst thing that a leader can do is to not make a decision. There is always a better
decision than not making a decision. It reduces the uncertainty because you have
already collected evidence, weighed the alternatives, and went through various
scenarios of how each decision will potentially turn out.
