INTRODUCTION
HYDRODYNAMICS
A branch of physics that deals with the motion of fluids and the forced acting on solid
bodies immersed fluids and in motion

FLOW VISUALIZATION
To make the flow patterns visible, in order to get qualitative or quantitative information on
them. There are 4 method to making flow visible
• Dye injection method
• Oil-film method
• Hydrogen bubble technique
• Streamlines
QUESTION 1
CONCEPT OF LAMINAR FLOW, TURBULENT FLOW AND
01 TRANSITION FLOW
THERE ARE
01 3 TYPE OF
FLUID
FLOW IN
PIPES
LAMINAR FLOW
Laminar flow generally happens when dealing with small
pipes and low flow velocities. In laminar flow the motion
of the particles of fluid is very ordernly with all particles
moving in straight lines parallel to the pipe walls
Turbulent flow
In turbulent flow vortices, eddies and wakes make the
flow unpredictable. Turbulent flow happens in general at
high flow rates and with larger pipes
TRANSITIONAL FLOW
Transitional flow is a mixture of laminar and turbulent
flow, with turbulence in the center of the pipe, and laminar
flow near the edges. Each of these flows behave in
different equations that predict their behavior
QUESTION 2
02 Reynolds number formula
REYNOLDS NUMBER FORMULA
QUESTION 3
03 Calculations of reynolds number
EXAMPLE
1) An oil having kinematic viscosity of 2.5 x 10-5 m2/s is flowing through a pipe of 200mm
diameter. Determine the type flow, if the discharge through the pipe is 6 liters/s.
Area
A=²

Velocity
Q= A × v
6×=0.031×v
v=
=0.194m/s
Reynold Number

=
= 1552 (Laminar flow)
conclusion
For the answer we know that’s fluid flow is laminar flow because
reynolds number below 2000
