JACK-O-LANTERN

CREATION
Introduction

In this work we will see how the jack-o-lantern is made step by

step, also a little of its history from where it emerged and was
implemented to put it in homes. There will be its characteristics to
be able to understand this topic. Without further ado, let's dive into
how we make jack-o-lanterns.
Origins

• Stingy Jack, He was a drinking Irishman, he was quite a profiteer, a bad person, and he was also
very cunning. He was so cunning that he managed to fool the devil himself. The devil appeared to
take him, and Jack asked him for a last wish before he took him with him. He asked her to go to the
pub and have one last beer. The devil accepted, and went to the bar. When he finished drinking,
Jack, using his talk, managed to convince the devil to transform himself into a coin, so he could pay
the innkeeper. Surprised by such a request, the demon turned into a coin and Jack caught it by
putting it in his pocket, since inside it he carried a crucifix. To free himself, the devil granted Jack
10 more years of life, and he accepted. Ten years later, Satan went to look for Jack permanently, as
part of his deal. Upon meeting the devil again, he asked him to go to an apple tree and take one
last apple before dying. Jack convinced the demon and they went to a forest. The devil climbed the
tree to pick an apple and Jack surrounded the entire tree with crucifixes, leaving the devil trapped.
What a scoundrel! Jack asked him that his soul could never be touched by the devil, and in order to
free himself he accepted. Jack continued with his bad life until one day he finally died. But when
he went to enter heaven, Saint Peter would not let him enter, since he had led a very sinful life.
Not being able to enter heaven, and Satan not being able to touch his soul, he was condemned to
wander as a spirit for the rest of his life. With a turnip he made a lantern to light his way, thus
creating jack-o'-lanterns.

Necessary materials

• A large pumpkin, preferably with a stem (the larger, the easier to

make)
• A knife with serrations
• Several spoons (if necessary)
• A marker (preferably water-based)
• A wet wipe, to clean your hands and the pumpkin during the process.
• Large bowl for pulp and discarded seeds
• old newspapers
• A thick candle
Procedure

• Wash and dry the pumpkin.

• Choose the flattest part to draw the face. Using the marker, mark
lines along the circumference of the pumpkin, where the cut for
the lid will be made. Make sure the hole is large enough for your
hand (and those of your assistants) to enter without problem.
Procedure

• Then we remove the top part, just as if it were a lid, and with the
spoon we remove the filling until it is empty
• Then, with the marker we draw the eyes, nose and mouth on the
front of the pumpkin (we can choose any of the sides, as long as
the opening is facing up).
• And with the knife we cut, very carefully, each of the parts.
• Next, and optionally, we can clean with cotton additional lines or
stains that have been left with the marker and finally, going over
with the knife, we leverage and remove the eyes and mouth.
Procedure

• Finally we clean the excess excess from the pumpkin. So let's

move on to the next step, which will be to illuminate it.
