ANALOG SIGNALS

 A signal for conveying information

which is a continuous function of time is
known as analog signal. The word analog
comes from Greak “ana” meaning “up to”
and logos meaning among other thing
“ratio” and “proportion”
ANALOG SIGNAL
 Analog signals which are
formed by continuously
varying voltage level
 Analog data are continuous
and take continuous values
 Minimum and maximum
values can be either positive
or negative
 Application like –
Thermometer, photocopies,
Old land line telephone,
audio tapes, VCR etc.
PROS AND CONS OF ANALOG SIGNALS

Advantage Disadvantages
 Major advantages of  Unwanted noise is
the analog signal us recorded.
infinite amount of  If we transmit data at
data long distance then
unwanted disturbance is
 Density is much there.
higher  It is quite difficult to
 Easy process. synchronize analog
 Less Bandwidth sound
DIGITAL SIGNAL
 A digital signal is a signal that
represent data as a sequence of
discrete values. A digital signal can
only take on one value from a finite
set of possible values at a given time.
 Digital signals are the language of
modern day computers
 Digital signals comprises only two
state i.e- 1 or 0.
 Digital signal are commonly referred
to as square waves or clock signals.
 Minimum value is 0 volts and
maximum value is 5 volts.
 Application like- PCs, Mobile phone,
Biometric etc.
PROS AND CONS OF DIGITAL SIGNAL

Advantages Disadvantages
 Can travel faster in over  Great bandwidth is
digital lines essential
 Ability to transfer more  Data security
data as compared to  Crime and terrorism
analog  Privacy concern.
 Less noise  Digital media
 Save time manipulation.
 Emergence of remote
working.
