Employee Orientation
 A procedure for providing new employees with
basic background information about the firm
including policies and rules

 Orientation programs range from 10-minute


discussions to week long programs

 HR specialist/office manager usually performs the


first part of the orientation (working hours, benefits,
vacations, intro to new supervisor etc)

Many good appointments have been turned


into poor employees because the induction
phase has been ignored

 Stresses while starting new job

Needs and emotions are unique to each
individual
The decision to apply for another job has been made
The application has been submitted
Period of uncertainty has been experienced
Selection process is over with the associated stress
Existing job and colleagues are to be left
Decision to relocate has been considered with effect on

Home perhaps has to be sold
New job has to be started and again the sense of
uncertainty
New people have to be met, new friendship to be
formed, who is to be trusted
A phase of learning is started where a great deal is
