    HISTORY

    • 40 percent vocabulary of
    Swahili language derives
    from the Arabic language
    • Mombasa is close to the equator hence experiencing
    high temperatures.
    • Courtyards allow cross ventilation keeping cool
    temperatures
    • Thick walls increase time lag of heat gain and heat
    loss keeping interiors relatively cool
    • Use of porous walls which allowed visibility while also ensuring privacy and ventilation
    • Materials; Coral stones and lime plaster ,easy to obtain, strengthens as time passes
    by and suitable for high humidity conditions.
