What is ECE?

Early childhood education, also known as


nursery education, is a branch of education
theory that relates to the teaching of children
from birth up to the age of eight. Traditionally,
this is up to the equivalent of third grade.

How kids grow?

Infant : birth to 1 year old


Toddle r: 1 year old to 2 years old – mobility increases –
by the end of this stage they walk, run and jump,
recognizes themselves in mirror and pictures, mimics
others
Preschooler: 3 -5 years old

Cognitive development is a field of study in


neuroscience and psychology focusing on a child's
development in terms of information processing,
conceptual resources, perceptual skill, language
learning, and other aspects of the developed adult
brain and cognitive psychology.

Perception-based thinking – child cannot use
logic to correct a misconception ( they can be
fooled)
Unidimensional thought - child cannot multitask.

Irreversibility – child does not realize some
processes can be undone.
Transductive Reasoning – when a child makes up
cause and effects. (Like they caused the rain)
Egocentrism – Inability to think like someone else.
