Five Phase Split Source Inverter for Electric Vehicle
There are various types of Inverters found in literature of this paper such as Five phase Voltage source Inverter,
Five phase current source Inverter, Three Phase to five Phase matrix converter, Z- Source Inverter, Split Source
inverter.
Base Paper:
Sherif M. Dabour, Ahmed A. Aboushady, I. A. Gowaid, Mohamed. A. Elgenedy and Mohamed E. Farrag,
“Performance Analysis and Evaluation of Multiphase Split-Source Inverters”, MDPI, Energies
2022, vol. 15, 8411.
OBJECTIVES
• To simulate a Five Phase Split Source Inverter used for Electric Vehicle applications.
• TITLE OF THE PAPER 1:AbdulSalam, M.; Dabour, S.M.; Rashad, E.M. Cascaded Multilevel Split-
Source Inverters: Analysis and Modulation. In Proceedings of the 2019 21st International Middle East Power
Systems Conference (MEPCON), Cairo, Egypt, 17–19 December 2019; pp. 1204–1209.
• DESCRIPTION:The paper introduces a new cascaded multilevel inverter topology, extending the Split-Source
Inverter concept to cascaded Multi-Level Inverter configurations. This structure offers boosting capability and
reduced passive elements, making it an alternative to Z-Source MLIs. The topology's structure, operating principle,
and modulation techniques are presented, and a simulation study investigates its validity and performance.
• TITLE OF THE PAPER 2: Dabour, S.M.; Alotaibi, M.A.; Abd-Elaziz, A.A.; Alshahat, M.A.; Abdallah, M.;
Eltamaly, A.M.; Abdel-Khalik, A.S.; Massoud, A.M.; Ahmed, S. Modeling and Control of Single-Stage Quadratic-
Boost Split Source Inverters. IEEE Access 2022, 10, 24162–24180.
• DESCRIPTION: This paper discusses the development of single-stage quadratic-boost split source inverters
(QBIs) to enhance their boosting characteristics. It introduces new topologies with high voltage gain, four different
QBI topologies, a small-signal model, and a closed-loop voltage and current control approach. The CC-QBI
topology offers superior boosting characteristics, lower capacitor voltages, and reduced semiconductor stresses,
especially for high voltage gains.

• TITLE OF THE PAPER 3: Akbar, F.; Cha, H.; Ahmed, H.F.; Khan, A.A. A Family of Single-Stage
High-Gain Dual-Buck Split-Source Inverters. IEEE J. Emerg. Sel. Top. Power Electron. 2020, 8, 1701–1713.
• DESCRIPTION: This paper proposes a family of single-phase single-stage high-gain dual-buck split-
source inverters (SSIs) that combine benefits of SSI, dual-buck inverter (DBI), and high-gain dc–dc
converters. These inverters offer high reliability, increased switching frequency, efficiency, and reduced pulse
width modulation dead-time. They also achieve voltage boost operation in a single stage, with no shoot-
through issues, and can use external fast recovery diodes for improved efficiency.
• TITLE OF THE PAPER 4:Chen, M.; Yin, C.; Loh, P.C. Magnetically Coupled High-Voltage-Boost
Split Y-Source Inverter Without Leakage-Induced Voltage Spikes. IEEE Trans. Ind. Electron. 2020, 67, 5444–
5455
• DESCRIPTION: This paper discusses the limitations of a typical inverter bridge, a three-winding linked
inductor, and a split-Y-source inverter. The inverter faces limitations in maximum modulation and boost duty
ratios, leading to voltage quality decline and voltage spikes. A split-Y-source inverter allows simultaneous
increase in boost duty ratios and maximum modulation, without strict coupling and snubber requirements.
The inverter's performance has been confirmed through theoretical analysis, simulations, and experimental
findings.
