Abstract
Concrete is an important building material consisting of mixing aggregate, cement and
water with or without chemical and mineral additives since the first day of use. Concrete
technology has made great progress and continues. With developing concrete technology,
self-cleaning concretes have emerged. Many studies have been conducted on self-cleaning
concretes by researchers. Self-cleaning buildings and roads that reduce pollution may
sound like futuristic ideas, but it is not far away to encounter these structures more widely
in our country and our world.

Introduction
Introduction
Self cleaning concrete by the name itself it shows its affordability. The name that it looks
like futuristic ideas and some of us may think that it is impossible. But it is practical now,
many foreign countries are stick to the concrete for its unbelievable beneficial results.
Self-cleaning concrete, also known as photocatalytic concrete, is a cutting-edge
material designed to maintain its appearance and functionality without the need for
regular cleaning. This innovation has the potential to revolutionize infrastructure and
improve environmental sustainability.

Theory
Need For Self Cleaning Concrete
Aesthetic Appeal
Self-cleaning concrete can help maintain the appearance of buildings and
infrastructure by reducing the accumulation of dirt, pollutants, and stains

Environmental Benefits
Photocatalytic materials used in self-cleaning concrete can help break down and
neutralize pollutants in the air. This can contribute to improved air quality and reduce
the environmental impact of built structures.

Long-Term Durability
Self-cleaning concrete may have enhanced durability due to the protective properties
of the photocatalytic materials.
How It Works - Self Cleaning ?
1. This self cleaning process can be done by oxidizing the NOx gases into powdered or dust
like particle by using the UV rays from the sun as resource by titanium dioxide (Tio2).

2. Once the sunlight is falls on the building the UV rays of certain range will allowed to fall
on the building.

3. Photocatalytic process Tio2+Nox+sunlight.

4. The hazardous gas becomes powdery particle & stays over the building like a dust.

5. After that water plays main role as a source of rain fall or manual cleaning so clean the
concrete with the water or otherwise it was self cleaned by rainfall and makes the
building non polluted
