What are Fleas?

FLEAS
• fleas vary in size from 1.2-4 mm.
• have 3-pairs of legs and claw-like feet.
• fleas mouth are for piercing and sucking.
• flea eggs are deposited onto the ground
• recognized disease and parasite vectors
• cause allergic reactions in people/pets.
• well-known flea transmitted disease is Bubonic plague.

What are Flies?
Flies
• measures from 1-5 mm in length
• two pairs of wings; one pair smaller
• Head, thorax, abdomen- appears three separate sections.
• Flies have one pair of antennae ;and
• One pair of eyes with three pairs
of legs.
Life Cycle of Flies
Another parasitic flies known as sandflies is
a vector of the disease, Leishmaniasis (Figure 2.3);and
caused by obligate intracellular protozoa of the
genus Leishmania.
