Aim

Now-a-days, the usage of Electrical vehicles (EVs) are rapidly increasing. It reduces maximum fuel
consumption which emits carbon gases and so we can reduce pollution. In EVs, Energy Storage
System ( ESS) plays a major role. For proper functioning of ESS we need to consider the optimal
battery performance using cell balancing techniques and Battery cooling system for effective
lifespan extension of the battery. From above, This project focuses on Thermal state of ESS i.e.,
proper cooling of ESS, to manage and operate effective dissipation of heat and maintain
temperature stability within specified limits. It includes the system design, materials used, cooling
methods employed environmental conditions .

Objective

• Designing a system to withstand the Thermal capability in Energy storage system

(ESS) by using different cooling methods.

• To increase the lifespan of energy storage system by implementing effective

sustainable cooling method.

Advantages & Disadvantages of BTMS

ADVANTAGES DIS ADVANTAGES

High efficiency in maintaining the battery- High design cost
pack in the desired temperature range
Increased life of battery-pack Leakage problems may occur in liquid
cooling
Reduced risk of battery-pack burning Additional power is needed for external
cooling
Any malfunction of BTMS may leads to
failure and burning of battery-pack

Applications of BTMS:

1. It is used to control the temperature of batteries in electric vehicles (EVs).

2. It is also used in some battery energy storing stations/devices, where the battery-
packs dissipate more heat.

3. Some areas where the battery-pack temperature is very high due to higher
atmosphere temperature.
