Software Applications

The Types of Applications

• The applications contained in the firmware
fall into one of the following three
categories:
– DCA or Data Collection Application
– DTA or Data Translation Application
– DPA or Data Processing Application
The Types of Applications - con’t
The DCA….
• The DCA is responsible for collecting data from an
external source, (peripheral modules or attached IED), and
mapping it to the System Point Database for storage.

The DTA….
• The DTA can copy existing data from the System Point
Database, process it, and output new system points into
the database. The data points created by DTA’s are
called Pseudo points, as they are not “physical” data
points.

The DPA….

• The DPA takes copies of any available

data in the System Point Database, and
processes it into format compatible with a
Master Station protocol.
The System Point Database
The WESDAC Interface Node: "WIN”
performs the control and management of the database

 Like a librarian, WIN takes care

of all of the data brought into, or
sent out of the Device
The System Point Database - con’t
 DPA will get data from WIN's
System Point Database,
process it, and give it to a Master Host

WIN

 DCA will collect data and give it to WIN

Application Indexing

• The sequence of the data points in the System Point Database is

determined by two things.
– The index of the applications is the order that the DCA and DTA
applications are placed in the software system of the SCS.
– The order that the data is in as it arrives from the device or application
that created it.

STATUS

ConfigPro 4 has a feature not

available in previous versions

of ConfigPro:
- a user can now change the
ANALOGS
Index of the DCA’s and DTA’s
in the system, this allows much
control over the sequence of
data in the System Point Database.
