This study aimed to evaluate oral Lactobacillus species and their probiotic capabilities in patients with periodontitis and periodontally healthy individuals. 118 volunteers were divided into two groups. Samples were collected and Lactobacillus isolated, identified by PCR and sequencing. Adhesion to hydroxyapatite and oral cells was tested. Antibacterial activity against pathogens was evaluated. Higher antibacterial properties of L.crispatus and L.gasseri and adherence of L.salivarius and L.fermentum make them suitable probiotic options. Decreased lactobacillus in periodontitis indicates pathogenic bacterial presence and oral flora imbalance.

CONCLUSION: • The higher antibacterial properties of L.crispatus and L.gasseri strains and the higher adherence ability of L.salivarius and L.fermentum might be appropriate options for probiotic treatment. • Decreased frequency of lactobacillus strain indicates 1. Presence and function of pathogenic bacteria in periodontal tissue. 2. Imbalance of oral microbial flora. THANK YOU.
