HISTORY
• The exact date of origin of
the Fibonacci sequence is
unknown.
• It is believed that
contributions to the theory
began in 200 BC by Indian
mathematicians whose
studies where based in the
language of Sanskrits.

• The sequence was introduced
to the Western European
mathematicians in 1202 by
Aka Fibonacci (famous as
the Leonardo of Pisa).

His real name was Leonardo
Pisano Bogollo, and he lived
between 1170 and 1250 in Italy.
“Fibonacci” was his nickname,
which roughly means “ Son of
Bonacci”.

GOLDEN RATIO
It is also interesting to note that the ratios
of successive Fibonacci numbers approach
the number Φ (Phi), also known as the
Golden Ratio. This is approximately equal
to 1.618.
