Arithmetic

Sequence
Group of numbers with the same interval
with the number before or next to it.
Ascending Order Descending Order
Order of the Sequence
The order of a sequence can be either ascending or descending order.
Arithmetic sequence is a sequence in which a constant is added
to the previous term to obtain the next term. The constant is called
the common difference denoted by d.

a2 = second term Common Difference

a1 = first term d = a2 – a1

For example,
1st 2nd 3rd 4th d = 9 – 5
5, 9, 13, 17 d = 4

Arithmetic sequence is a sequence in which a constant is added
to the previous term to obtain the next term. The constant is called
the common difference denoted by d.

a2 = second term Common Difference

a1 = first term d = a2 – a1

For example,
1st 2nd 3rd 4th d = 9 – 5
5, 9, 13, 17 d = 4

The nth term of an Arithmetic Sequence is represented by:
an = a1 + (n – 1)d
an = missing term
a1 = first term The common difference of the sequence
d = common difference {5, 9, 13, 17} is 4
n = number of terms (nth) d=4
Let us find the next term of the Arithmetic Sequence:
1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th
5, 9, 13, 17, __ a5
a1 an
Example 2:
Find the 15th term of the arithmetic sequence {5, 9, 13, 17,…}.
an = a1 + (n – 1)d
d=4
an = missing term
a1 = first term
d = common difference
n = number of terms (nth)
