company.
• It is one of the essential part of TATA Group.
• It is founded in 1945 by Jamsetji tata.
• Headquartered in Mumbai, India.

History
• The company was founded in 1945 as Tata Engineering and
Locomotive Company (TELCO).
• It manufactured its first commercial vehicle in 1954, in
collaboration with Daimler-Benz AG.
• Tata Motors entered the passenger vehicle market in 1988, and
launched its first indigenously developed cars Indica and Safari
in 1998.

1998-1999
• In 1999 Ratan tata wants to sell out tata motors due to low sales and
a decline in revenue
• Why?
• Centro car launched in 1998
• Maruti 800 huge market share
• Quality issue
• Ratan tata went to the USA for the sale of Tata motors to Bill I will do
a favour
but he felt humiliated in a meeting and decided not to sell it. by
buying

2008-2014 (time to revenge)

• Global recession hitted in 2008 to various company in which ford is


one of them.
• Tata motors took it as an opportunity and bought Jaguar and Land
Rover at 10000cror .

• After purchasing it, Tata did research and development in Jaguar,


Landrover, and tata sumo and earned a good profit in the Indian
market as well as in the Global market.
2019-2020
• 60% to 70% revenue of tata came from Jaguar and Land Rover and its main
business is in China(33%) and Europe.
• But three big event was held.
• First Chine increased the tariff on cars by around 25% in 2014, then tata did a
joint venture with cherry automobile and earned a good profit, but due to
technical and mechanical problems in the cars, they called back 1,06,000
vehicles.
• Second European country increased the taxes on diesel vehicles, to enhance
the use of Electric vehicles. So they sold out cars on discount and they faced
looses in EU.
• Third March 2020 covid-19 lockdown.
SWOT
Strength
• Removed old vehicles from the Market and did research innovation and
focused on safety. Introduced new vehicles like NAXON, PUNCH, etc.
• Vertical integration optimum utilization of resources (Software – TCS,
Battery-tata chemicals), etc.
• Proactive approach decides to enter into the electric vehicle market.
• 82% Market share of EV.
• Make in India and made in India (Kashmir solidarity day).

• High price
• Limited presence
• Greater operational const.

• Maruti chief RC Bhargava said not to enter into EV till 2025, NENO EV.
