Geography:

 The word Geography originates from two


words “Geo” and “Graphy”.
 Geo means “ The Earth” and Graphy means “

to Describe”.
 So the description of the Earth is called

Geography.
Geography:

Geography are the science that deals


with the description, distribution and
interaction opf the diverse physical ,
biological and cultural features of the
Earth’s surface.
Map
 A Map is a drawing made to show some area of
the Earth.
 There are many kinds of Map:

1. Physical Map: it shows Hills, mountainss ,


rivers, valleys and other landforms.
2. Political or Administrative Map: it shows
towns, cities and borders between countries.
3. Relief Map: it shows the height of hills and
mountains ( with lines drawn to show height
in metres).
Physical Features
 Mountains: a mountain is an elevated part of
the Earth’s cust, about 900 metres or above
from the sea level and has steep sides.

 Plains: a plain is a vast lowland and


comparatively a levelled area of land. Plains
are of the significant Earth land forms.

 Plateaus: a plateau is a flat, elevated landform
that rises sharply above the surrounding area
on at least one side. Plateaus occur on every
continent and takeup a third of the Earth’s
land.

 Deserts: a desert is a large area of land,


usually in a hot region, where there is almost
no water, rain, trees or plants.
Physical Features of Pakistan
 Physical features of Pakistan are very
different at different areas.
 There are high mountains which are covered

with snow throughout the year.


 In some parts of the punjab and sindh there

are deserts.
 some areas are very hot and some other

areas are very cold.

into 7 different parts:
1. Northern Mountainous Region
2. Western Mountainous Region
3. Salt Range And Potohar Plateau
4. Baluchistan Plateau
5. Upper Plain Of The Indus
6. Lower Plane Of The Indus
7. Coastal Area Of Sindh And Baluchistan
Northern Mountainous Region
This area is situated in the northern
area of Pakistan. It has beautiful and
very high mountains. The world's
second highest peak K2 is situated in
this region. Shahrah-e- Qaraquram
lies in this difficult mountainous area
which links China with Pakistan.
Western Mountainous Region
This area is situated in the western
area of Pakistan. These mountains and
hills are not very green. These are
mostly dry hills. Only bushes grow
there. People graze sheep’s and goats
there.
Salt Range And Potohar Plateau
It is situated between Rawalpindi and
Jhelum. The area is not very high like
mountains. It has the world's largest
salt mines. Khewra is one of the town
famous for salt mines.
Baluchistan Plateau
Another plateau is situated in
baluchistan. It is also like Potohar
Plateau but it is dry. Nothing grows
there except bushes.
Upper Plain Of The Indus
This is the central area of Pakistan. It
is very fertile. A number of agricultural
crops grow there. It has a number of
Canal that supply water to the
agricultural lands. This plain is lush
green.
Lower Plain Of The Indus

Most of this area is in sindh. it is also


very fertile. A number of agricultural
crops grow in it.
Coastal Area Of Sindh And Balochistan

Pakistan has Arabian Sea in his south.


A long sea shore is in sindh and
Baluchistan. Karachi our biggest city
and port lies on the coast of the
Arabian Sea. A large number of fish is
caught at the coast of sindh and
Baluchistan.
