The Venn diagram shows sets U, C and D.
Write down the members of:
a. the universal set, U
b. C ∪ D
c. C ∩ D
d. C’
e. D’
On a Venn diagram show:
A. the whole numbers from 1 to 10
set A where A = {1, 2, 5, 10}
set B where B = {2, 4, 6, 8, 10}
B. the whole numbers from 15 to 21
set P where P = {15, 18, 21}
set Q where Q = {16, 18, 20}
Determine whether the statement is TRUE or FALSE.
1. The union of set A and set B, denoted by A 𝖴 B, includes elements
from both set A and set B, or both.
2. The intersection of set S and set T, denoted by S ∩ T, consists of
elements that are present in both set S and set T.
3. The complement of a set, A, is another set that consists of all the
elements in the universal set that are not in the set A.
4. Venn diagrams are primarily used to illustrate logical relationships
between sets.
5. Mark Venn is credited with inventing the Venn diagram as a visual
tool for depicting relationships between different sets.
Choose the letter of the correct answer for each question.
For items 1 – 2.
Let A = { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 } , B = { 2, 4, 5, 6 }
1. Find A U B.
A. { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 } B. { 2, 4, 5, 6 }
C. { 2, 4, 6} D. { 1, 3, 5 }
2. Find A ∩ B.
A. { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 } B. { 2, 4, 5, 6 }
C. { 2, 4, 6} D. { 1, 3, 5 }
For items 3 - 5. Given the Venn Diagram below.

3. What is A ∩ B?
A. { 4,7 } B. { 1, 6 }
C. { 2, 3, 5 } D. { 1, 4, 6, 7, 8}
For items 3 - 5. Given the Venn Diagram below.

4. What is A U B?
A. { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 } B. { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 }
C. { 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 } D. { 1, 4, 6, 7, 8}
For items 3 - 5. Given the Venn Diagram below.

5. What is B’?
A. { 1, 4, 6, 7, 8} B. { 1,2,3,4,5 ,6,7 }
C. { 2, 3, 5, 8 } D. { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 }
Some adults were asked whether they like classical music or jazz.
The Venn diagram shows information about their answers.

a. How many adults were asked whether they like classical music or jazz?
b. How many adults like jazz?
c. How many adults like both jazz and classical music?
d. How many adults like neither jazz nor classical music?
Venn diagram is a principal way of showing
sets diagrammatically. This method consists
primarily of entering the elements of a set into a
circle or circles. It can be used to solve word
problems involving union and intersection of sets.
In solving set operations using the Venn diagram,
the following are the steps to be followed:
Step 1. Determine what is given and what are
being asked.
Step 2. Illustrate using the Venn diagram.
Step 3. Determine what operations to be used.
Step 4. Use the operations.
Step 5. Answer the questions being asked.
In a Junior High School, 200 students
were randomly selected. 140 liked tea, 120 liked
coffee and 80 liked both tea and coffee.

a. How many students liked only tea?

b. How many students liked only coffee?
c. How many students liked neither tea or coffee?
Answer the following questions. Refer to the diagram
below.

1. Find how may had taken

a. Math only?
b. English only?
c. Science only?
d. all three subjects?
2. How many students had been
considered in a survey?
