Introductory Message

For the Facilitator:

Welcome to the Mathematics Grade 9 Self-Learning Module on Solving for

Angles of Parallelograms!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the self-learning module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this self-
learning module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing
them to manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and
assist the learners as they do the tasks included in the self-learning module.
For the Learner:

Welcome to the Mathematics Grade 9 Self-Learning Module on Solving for

Angles of Parallelograms!

RECAP

Let’s identify it!!!

Direction: Identify which quadrilateral is being described.

__________1. A parallelogram with four congruent sides and four congruent angles.
__________2. A quadrilateral with only one pair of opposite sides are parallel.
__________3. A parallelogram with four congruent sides.
__________4. A quadrilateral in which two pairs of opposite sides are parallel.
__________5. A parallelogram with four congruent angles
LESSON

In the previous self-learning module, the conditions that make a quadrilateral

a parallelogram and its properties were discussed thoroughly. Now we are ready to
use the properties to find the measures of the angles involving parallelograms.

Given: □CARE is a parallelogram.

1. ∠𝐶 ≅ ∠R Using the property of parallelogram
∠𝐴 ≅ ∠𝐸 in which any two opposite angles
are congruent.

2. ∠𝐶 + ∠𝐴 = 180° Using the property of parallelogram in

∠𝑅 + ∠𝐴 = 180° which any two consecutive angles are
∠𝑅 + ∠E = 180° supplementary.
∠𝐶 + ∠E = 180°

3. ∆𝐶𝐴𝐸 ≅ ∆𝑅𝐴𝐸 Using the property in which a

diagonal of a parallelogram divides the
parallelogram in two congruent
triangles.

Examples: C A
1. □CALM is a parallelogram. If m ∠𝐶𝐿𝑀= 18° 27°
and m ∠𝐿𝐶𝑀= 27°, find:

a. m ∠𝐶𝑀𝐿 M 18°
L
b. m ∠𝐶𝐴𝐿
c. m ∠𝐴𝐶𝐿
d. m ∠𝐴𝐿𝐶
Solutions:
a. In ∆𝐶𝑀𝐿, m ∠𝐶𝐿𝑀 + m ∠𝐿𝐶𝑀 + m ∠𝐶𝑀𝐿 = 180° Angle Addition Postulate.
18° + 27° + m ∠𝐶𝑀𝐿 = 180° By substitution.
m ∠𝐶𝑀𝐿 = 135°

b. In □CALM, ∠𝐶𝑀𝐿 ≅∠𝐶𝐴𝐿 Opposite angles are congruent.

If m ∠𝐶𝑀𝐿 = 135° then m ∠𝐶𝐴𝐿 = 135°

c. Since CA is parallel to ML and CM is parallel to AL, then alternate interior

angles are congruent.
∠𝐶𝐿𝑀 ≅∠𝐴𝐶𝐿
If m ∠𝐶𝐿𝑀= 18°, then m∠𝐴𝐶𝐿 = 18°

d. Similarly, ∠𝐿𝐶𝑀 ≅ ∠𝐴𝐿𝐶

If m ∠𝐿𝐶𝑀= 27°, then m∠𝐴𝐿𝐶 = 27°
2. Use the figure at the right to find the measures of the
unknown variables and the indicated angles.
Given: □CARE is a parallelogram, find:
a. x
b. y
c. ∠𝑅
d. ∠𝐸
e. ∠𝐶
Solutions:
a. ∠C + ∠A = 180° ∠C and ∠A are supplementary angles.
2x+4 + 60 = 180 Substitute the values of ∠C and ∠A.
2x + 64 = 180 Simplify and combine like terms.
2x = 180-64 Subtract 64 from each side of the equation.
2x = 116 Divide each side of the equation by 2.
x = 58

b. ∠E ≅ ∠A ∠E and ∠A are congruent therefore they are equal.

3y + 9 = 60 Substitute the value of ∠E and ∠A.
3y = 60-9 Subtract 9 from each side of the equation.
3y = 51 Divide each side of the equation by 3.
y = 17

c. ∠R + ∠A = 180° ∠R and ∠A are supplementary angles.

∠R + 60° = 180° Substitute the value of ∠A.
∠R = 180°-60° Subtract 60° from each side of the equation.
∠R = 120°

d. ∠E ≅ ∠A
If m∠A = 60°, then m∠E = 60°

e. ∠C ≅ ∠R
If m∠R = 120°, then m∠C = 120°

WRAP–UP

Remember that…

• To solve for the unknown angles involving parallelograms, we need to

be guided by the different properties of a parallelogram.

• These are the different Properties of Parallelogram that will guide you
in solving for the angles.

REFLECTION: (Journal Writing)

The properties of parallelogram can be associated as the rules to be followed

when an online or virtual classes start. There are many factors that should be
considered when doing online classes so as to prevent confusion and to have a
healthy communication. As a student, list down the rules and key factors to be
followed so that online or virtual classes will be successful.
