INTRODUCTION
What is an outline? Outline is a way for
organizing ideas. It includes a topic,
audience, purpose, thesis statement,
main idea and supporting details. It is a
helpful way in understanding the text
and have a better visualization of ideas
for the writers.
MAIN IDEA
Main idea is the central point of
the paragraph while supporting
details provides
information to clarify, prove, or
explain the main idea.
TWO KINDS OF OUTLINE

1. READING OUTLINE is to get the


main ideas from the text.

2. WRITING OUTLINE allows the


writer to categorize the main ideas,
to organize the paragraph into order.

1. TOPIC OUTLINE summarizes


the main idea and supporting
details of the text in words or
phrase.

2. SENTENCE OUTLINE lists


complete sentences for each
main idea and supporting details,
it is more informative compared
to topic outline

CREATING AN OUTLINE 10

INTRODUCTION- it is the first paragraph of your


outline, where you discuss what is your topic and
thesis statement.

THESIS STATEMENT- is a statement where the main


point of the text is stated.

BODY- it is where the main idea and supporting details


is written. the body covers what the thesis statement
is trying to prove.

CONCLUSION- is a closing sentence and briefly


mention the topic sentences and restate the thesis
statement.

The English office located in the Administration
building, consists of two adjoining rooms which contain 70
Macintosh computers and 2 laser printers. In addition to a
server which allows instructors to make assignments and
materials
available over the Internet and to the local intranet, each
computer in the lab contains a word processor, a web
browser, telnet, and hundreds of commercial and teacher-
authored programs appropriate for students who are building
their English skills. There are also 3 video stations, and a
terminal to the college VAX machine which is used for
record-keeping.
