Introduction to Lakhodair Landfill Site
• Pakistan's first sanitary landfill site has developed at
Lakhodair Lahore.
• It was executed on 2013 where as its contraction years
are 2014-2015 and in April 2016 it was ready for its
concern work.
• The area consists of the capacity of 6 lots, out of which
only 2 lots are being used right now LOT-I and LOT-II.
• The selected site is located 15 kms away from the City
Centre and comprises of depressions, ditches and
barren land.

Geography:
The geography of Lakhodair sanitary
landfill site can be damaged if the
methane gas and leachate water will be
spread under the ground. Such type of
damage can effect the soil, agriculture
around the area as well as the residential
area along the sanitary landfill site if the
leachate water include with the ground
water.

the landfill site causes the reduction of smell

waste.

the area include dogs, cats, horses, houserats
and bats.
2. Reptiles Lizards such as Spiny tailed lizard
and Snake.
3. Birds: Kites, Myna, Flies, Titodi.
4. The amphibians found in the area include
common frog (Ranatigrina) and Lizard.
5. No endangered specie was found at the site.
The area also has not been identified as
ecologically sensitive area by the wildlife
department.
 Social Impact
The impact of sanitary landfill site can be effect
people of Lakhodair in various ways such as:
1. Mental Health Issues.
2. Physical Health Issues.
3. Surroundings of residential area which will effect
residency.
4. Different types of mood swings.
5. Increasing in smell cause bad environment.
6. Workers health on stake.
The figure shows that if
residential area and landfill site
will be close by distance then
the impact of the site will be
higher for residents and it will
be turns towards damaging
residents physical and mental
health as well as disturbing their
clean environment.
