00:00 Host- Welcome.

Quize: Good day and Thank you for coming to this session. Myself Quize, as a Host and
Moderator for this panel discussion about Environmental issues that we are currently facing. But
before that, let us know who will be joining as panelists.
Paolo: I am Fernando Paolo Teatro, of Grade 9 St. Martin and I will be one of the panelists in
this group.
Ahbygale: My name is ______, from Grade 9 St. Martin.
Earl: I am _____, from Grade 9 St. Mark.
Micah: I’m _____, from Grade 9 St. Martin.
John Riel: I’m ___, from Grade 9 St. Matthias.
Rio: My name is ___, also from 9 St. Matthias
Quize: and certainly last but not the least…
Jovanah: and I’m _____, from Grade 9 St. Martin. By this discussion we hope that we could
uhm, encourage other students to take part with this movement that we are promoting.
Quize: Thank you. Now, let’s begin our Discussion regarding about environmental problems: Air
pollution, Climate Change, Deforestation and Species Extinction. WHY IS AIR POLUTION A
PRIORITY ISSUE?
Paolo: um for me, air pollution is a priority for today’s generation because from what I observed
from our surroundings that it can kill people every year. It affects our Health like skin irritation,
asthma, eye problems and even cancer though it reduces the number of our chances to survive a
longer period of time. With that also animals suffer, and plants go to waste easily.
Ahbygale: Yes, This is because of the vehicles, sites, fossil fuels thus can create these
greenhouses gases, climate change is causing the temperature to increase. Leading to various
pollutions without even constantly knowing that it is already in mid sight.
Jovanah: I do agree with what paolo and ahbygale said because it can mainly affect people like
especially our health. It is one of Earth’s Health risk, when we inhale polluted air that
contaminants can penetrate our respiratory system. We can get more health problems in air
pollution.
Earl: Yes, it is basically poisoning us and not only us humans but the whole environment we live
in. If we wouldn’t take an immediate action to this, what more would we experience to the future
it only gets worse and worse so taking the time that we have is what the best solution to stop this
issue seems.
Quize: I agree.
Micah: Air pollution is something we pretty much see everywhere we go outside our home and
we can clearly see this coming also in Public Transportation Devices such as tricycles, jeeps,
buses, and in factories, from people who smoke and etc.
John Riel: I think it become an priority issue because of the people being oblivious with the fact
that this kind of pollution can cause harmful effects than any other more sooner. We are so used
by ignoring and not minding these thoughts that we’ve reached the thought of this becoming
worldwide issue.
Rio: By adding just up causing extinction, and primarily the main thing where diseases spread
through air. Like COVID-19. It has become more insignificant to us not knowing this is what
bothers the Human’s health status.
Quize: Definitely, air pollution can be much of a threat to any living matter desperately and can
cause serious problems. But anyway WHAT REALLY IS AIR POLLUTION? How about you
jovanah?
Jovanah: Air pollution is a mixture of toxic gases and chemicals in the air. It could be a result
from human activities and natural disasters like wildfires, volcanic eruptions and more.
Paolo: For me, I will define air pollution that is caused along with the smoke that we burn from
day to day basis and from a research I believe that Polychlorinated Biphenyls and Carbon
Monoxides are some chemicals that potentially harm our environment.
Ahbygale: It can cause serious health problems and environmental threats such as what we
mentioned. It is based also on natural sources like disasters that can ruin and create a poisonous
air.
Earl: true, Facilities that release carbon dioxide is what traps the heat from the Sun., with that
trapping the heat contributes to climate change and arise its temperature.
Micah: and according to what they say that air pollution consists of small gases that came from
what was said as human activities and even natural disasters.
Quize: yes, there can be chemicals that are good and either bad because of the doings human
make. That can suddenly cause to change the status of our environment. Now, do you guys think
that cars should be banned in urban areas? Specifically in cities? John Riel?
John: For my opinion, cars shouldn’t be banned because this has been part in our daily lives, by
driving to work or all other places to go but we can make ways. I suggest that they’ll still need
this law of color coding.
Rio: and to also reduce this pollution. People who want to walk, cycling or any other that can’t
create carbon dioxide or greenhouse gases is one of the best solutions to reduce the harmful
effects of smoke to our air.
Paolo: With that we can look forward to a brighter side. I don’t think cars should be banned
because it is also a form of transportation but we could just reduce using cars for the better
environment. I mean to be possible.
Jovanah: I agree. We shouldn’t ban it at all like what paolo said we should only reduce the use of
car and I have this idea where private cars and other vehicles should be the ones to be banned so
that we can only rely on public transportation, walking and biking.
Ahbygale: yes it reduces pollution, less traffic and more efficient. It can be only banned on cities
in capable of wide transportation unlike on provinces. Cities become more polluted if we
wouldn’t reduce using cars at all.
Earl: But however, instead of banning it into places we should reinvent and innovate them into
something more ecofriendly and convenient without damaging our environment.
Micah: I also had that idea earl, we should face the problem not ban them. Because how else can
we solve the thing bothering in our surrounding if we ignore them at nothing.
Quize: I really like that suggestion of yours earl, we should use our knowledge to overcome and
develop a new solution so that we wouldn’t just leave things behind but as it become not much of
an advantage we can make use of it again for though as we said that it is already part of our daily
lives. So, HOW HAS GLOBAL WARMING OR CLIMATE CHANGE AFFECTED THE
WORLD SO FAR? Again how about you john riel?
John Riel: There have been a lot of awful things that happened recently the Australian wildfire,
the US wildfire, the higher sea levels the arctic and Antarctic are melting and also heat waves in
Europe.
Rio: yes, those are just a scratch on the surface of what is going to happen if we don’t make an
immediate movement. Against climate change any soon many things will happen.
Paolo: I think that global warming and climate change really affected the world negatively thus
resulting in many different natural disasters for the past months. Here in Philippines, we’ve been
hit by 13 more typhoons so far.
Jovanah: yes it is not normal. All of these things are bad and they’re just no way just
coincidences. All of this happened because of human activities that contributed to the damage of
our ecosystem.
Ahbygale: Climate change affected the world, and is getting worse because of what jovanah also
said that cause the dying of animals, people and many more. It can be the same as air pollution.
Earl: Yes. As same as air pollution it affects our health, foods, weather, and the ocean, animals
and the ecosystem itself getting higher temperatures because of this greenhouse gas.
Micah: All of it caused by human or natural but if there is an alternative for this we can use it
renewable energy like solar panels and wind energy that cannot create harmful chemicals.
Quize: True, we could come up with a plan so that we will able to solve this possible irreversible
environmental disaster that might actually happen if we don’t take actions now. Now, let’s
proceed to deforestation. What is deforestation?
John: Deforestation decreases the plants or trees all over the world used by agricultural crops,
buildings and even mining activities.
Rio: Deforestation literally means to cutting of trees permanently to make new things like
furniture’s and papers.
Paolo: Like what the previous two said deforestation is a massive cutting or burning down
forests for industrial and agricultural, residential purposes.
Jovanah: yes deforestation is the decrease trees for purposes that affects the world’s biodiversity
and ecosystem in a very harmful way.
Quize: There have been illegal ones trying to decrease trees which also is another issue for this
matter that only adds up to more waste it causes. But talking about that, what are the effects
deforestation have on the environment? Earl?
Earl: No more trees would hold the land’s water that could cause land erosion or what we call
landslide.
Ahby: Lesser trees also means lesser absorption of emissions of carbon, a chemical that destroys
the ozone layer.
Quize: Okay, deforestation can also cause species extinction particularly on those animals who
live on forests. Many will migrate and can’t stand the habitat and gets extinct rapidly. Trees are
some good amount of oxygen they have about 20% on earth. So, that’s all for this Panel
Discussion. This is something to take interest and focus the issue.
