What is technology?
Technology- the branch of knowledge that
deals with the creation and use of technical
means and their inter relation with life,
society, and the environment, drawing upon
such subjects as industrial arts,
engineering, applied science, and pure
science.
The word "technology" originates from the
Greek word "tekhne" and its Latin equivalent
"ars," both of which refer to a skill or practical
process accompanied by scientific knowledge .
In ancient Greece, "techne" was associated
with skill in the arts .
Types and Examples of Technology
● Communication Technology
• This is a system that uses technical means to transmit information or
data from one place to another or from one person to another.
●Construction Technology
• This is the study of advanced methods and equipment used to build
basic and advanced structures. One type includes buildings and
heavy engineering structures like bridges.
●Assistive Technology
• Assistive technology is used by people with disabilities to accomplish
specific tasks that are difficult or impossible to perform. The term
”Assistive” means helping or providing an extra hand.

A meduim is anything that carries
information between a source and a
reciever.
Media are the communication outlets or
tools used to store and deliver information
or data. The term refers to components of
the mass media communications industry,
such as print media, publishing, the news
media, photography, cinema, broadcasting,
and advertising.
How media used by the teachers in teaching
and learning?
• Media can be a powerful way to
enhance student learning. Instead of
always relying on lectures, you can use
print, audio, and visual media, such as
books, videos, audio, television, CDs,
DVDs, or short films, to hold your
students' attention and help them retain
information.
Instructional Media are media which provide
messages with an instructional purpose.
Basic types of media
1. Text (book, poster, chalkboard, computer
screen, etc.)
2. Audio (previous voice, music, mechanical
sounds, noise, etc.)
3. Visual (diagrams on a poster, drawings on
chalkboard, photograps, graphics in a book,
cartoons etc)
Basic types of media
1. Motion Media (all media that show motion,
vidoetapes, animation, etc)
2. People (teachers, students, subject matter, experts,
etc)
3. Manipulatives (three dimensional objects which can
be touched and handled by.
Learning
• Learning is acquiring new knowledge,
behaviors, skills, values, or preferences and
may involve synthesizing different types of
information.
• Learning is a continuous process of
acquiring new knowledge, competencies,
and skills. The human mind is always
curious and never hesitates to explore new
challenges and prospects.
Four types of Learning in Education
1. Visual learners are individuals who prefer to take in their
information visually—be that with maps, graphs, diagrams, charts,
and others.
2. Auditory learners are individuals who learn better when they take
in information in auditory form when it is heard or spoken.
3. Kinesthetic learners are individuals who prefer to learn by doing.
They enjoy a hands-on experience.
4. Reading/writing learners consume information best when it’s in
words, whether that’s by writing it down or reading it.
Domains OF Learning
Benjamin Bloom has suggested three domains of
learning in his taxonomy which are:
1. Cognitive: To recall, calculate, discuss, analyze,
problem solve, etc.
2. Psychomotor: To dance, swim, ski, dive, drive a
car, ride a bike, etc.
3. Affective: To like something or someone, love,
appreciate, fear, hate, worship, etc.
