P R E S E N TAT I O N T I T L E
Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

4
VERSE 1

Come Thou Fount of every blessing,

Tune my heart to sing Thy grace,
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.

WALKING IN UNITY
5
VERSE 1
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it,
Mount of God's redeeming love.

WALKING IN UNITY
6
VERSE 2

Here I find my greatest treasure,

Hither by Thy help I come.
And I hope by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.

WALKING IN UNITY
7
VERSE 2
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wand'ring from the fold of God;
He to rescue me from danger,
Bought me with His precious blood.

WALKING IN UNITY
8
VERSE 3

O, to grace how great a debtor,

I'm constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness like a fetter,
Bind my wand'ring heart to thee;

WALKING IN UNITY
9
VERSE 3
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love.
Here's my heart, O take and seal it.
Seal it for Thy courts above.

AMOS: THE PROPHET
OF JUSTICE

THE BOOK OF AMOS

INTRODUCTION

• The name Amos means “bearer of burdens”.

• Amos was among the Shepherds of Tekoa, somewhere
in the southern kingdom of Judah.
• His experience working the fields might have prepared
him for the task ahead.

WALKING IN UNITY
• The prophet travelled North to the wool markets in
Israel and saw the life of the people there.

23
INTRODUCTION

• It was a time of peace and prosperity in Israel, but also

a time of social problems as the rich became richer at
the expense of the poor.
• He was not an educated man, but he was one of the
first prophets to write down his sermons.

WALKING IN UNITY
• He had great courage as an uneducated visitor from
the south to speak out his message of judgment to the
people in the north. (v.7:14-25)

24
INTRODUCTION

• He obeyed God’s call to carry this unwelcome

message to the people of Israel.
• Chapter 1 and 2 are filled with judgment for

WALKING IN UNITY

INJUSTICE
• Read Amos 5:7, 10 - 13
• Justice - the quality of being just, impartial, or fair
• The prophet was calling the nation out.
• “turn justice into bitterness”
• “cast righteousness to the ground”

WALKING IN UNITY
• “hate the one who upholds justice in court”
• “detest the one who tells the truth”
• “oppress the innocent and take bribes”
• “deprive the poor of justice in the courts”

26
INJUSTICE

times are evil.” (v.13)

• The prophet warns against complacency.
• “Woe to you who are complacent in Zion, and to you who
feel secure on Mount Samaria,”
• Those who put their trust in the wealth have this tendency

WALKING IN UNITY
to believe that’s all there is.
• God was warning his people not to look at their wealth as

• Compare with the nations already destroyed.

28
CARE-FREE ENJOYMENT
• Is the prophet saying that it is wrong to have wealth and
possession?
• “9 But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and
are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that
plunge them into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of

WALKING IN UNITY
money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people,
craving money, have wandered from the true faith and
pierced themselves with many sorrows.”

29
CARE-FREE ENJOYMENT
• “17 Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud
and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable.
Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we
need for our enjoyment. 18 Tell them to use their money
to do good. They should be rich in good works and

WALKING IN UNITY
generous to those in need, always being ready to share
with others. 19 By doing this they will be storing up their
treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they
may experience true life.”

9 With a blinding flash he destroys the stronghold and

WALKING IN UNITY
brings the fortified city to ruin.”

33
SPIRITUAL EMPTINESS
• With the warning of pending danger, there was a solution.
