LAND
CONSERVATION

Mariel David
LAND
CONSERVATION
The structured and
planned treatment of
geographic area to
preserve it's natural
environmental
characteristics .
The practice of Engaging in
an area of land to reduce
the harmful effects of the
actions of humans
Importance of Having Land
conservation

Land conservation can help to protect valuable

habitat for these species. Ecosystem services
are the benefits that healthy, natural
ecosystems provide. For example, vegetated
land absorbs rainwater and runoff, reduces
flooding and soil erosion, and filters water as it
permeates the soil. Plants and trees also filter
air and generate oxygen. Maintaining land as
open space helps to protect these and other
ecosystem services
Why is land conservation Important?

Preserves the natural

resources of the land. It
can also protect the
intrinsic value of the
natural features of the
land
The process of protecting
natural land and returning
developed land to its natural
state. As you man develop
and harm different ecosystem
a variety of techniques are
needed to try to save the
environment and protecting
the remaining land
Intrinsic value

Is the idea that a thing

is valuable simply
because it exists in a
natural unmediated
form.
There are some techniques
of land conservation
✓ PRESERVATION
✓ RESTORATION
✓MITIGATION
✓ REMEDIATION
>PRESERVATION

The environment means that

lands and their natural
resources should not be
consumed by humans and
should instead be maintained
in their pristine form.
How do we preserve
land?
To protect and conserve our land,
we must practice responsible
farming, forestation, and
development. In addition, we must
preserve, protect, and create lands
designated for conservation and
continue to convert environmentally
valued private properties into
conservation lands.
Preservationist
strongly believe
that humans can
have access to land
but should only
utilize it for it's
natural beauty and
inspiration.
He is scottish immigrant who live
from 1838 to 1914 and had a large
admiration for California's Yosemite
Valley.
Muir was a strong advocate for the
complete protection of land and
believe that people should only use
the environment for enjoyment
and not as a resource for goods.
The influence of John Muir is still
evident today through the
continuation of the sierra club in
JOHN MUIR the establishment of the muir
woods national monument, a
preserve area of land in northern
California that is home to an
ancient redwood Forest.
RESTORATION
The process of returning
ecosystems and
communities to their
original natural Condition
In order to restore an
ecosystem, this must first
examine the current
environment and do
research to determine the
historical condition of the
ecosystem.
MITIGATION
The process of replacing a
degraded site with a healthy site
that is of equal ecological value in a
different location. This purpose of
mitigation is to compensate for
destroying one area by purchasing
or creating a new area that is of
equal ecological value.
creates safer communities
by reducing loss of life
and property damage.
REMEDIATION
Remediation is the process of
cleaning a contaminated area using
relatively mild or nondestructive
methods.
The main goal of remediation is to
clean and restore the contaminated
area while causing as little
disturbance or harm as possible.
Scientists often use a variety of
methods for remediation, including
chemical, physical, and biological
methods to remove contamination.
Bioremediation is the use of
naturally occurring or
purposefully introduced
organisms to break down
pollutants. This technique was
used following the Deepwater
Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of
Mexico in 2010. Naturally
occurring bacteria were used to
clean up the oil. The bacteria
were able to ingest and break
down the oil into less harmful
substances.
ADVANTAGE of the Disadvantage of

TAKE NOTE:

Moral and social responsibility for every

action undertaken.
Active participation in the campaign to
maintain and sustain a balanced
ecosystem
Correct ethical judgement and decisions
Preservation of places of great natural
beauty for future generations
