Habitat destruction is one of the greatest threats for our world.
Once a habitat is destroyed
it is hard and expensive to recover. Sometimes the destruction is irreversible. But what is being done about this issue? We have charities and organisations that do an amazing job in protecting habitats as well as the species living in them. Some of the most popular ones are 1. The Nature Conservancy: It is one of the most effective conservation organizations worldwide. Their mission is "conserving land and water on which all life depends". 2. The WWF: They are the world’s leading animal conservation charity. The mission of World Wildlife Fund is to conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to the diversity of life on Earth. Their vision is to build a future in which people live in harmony with nature. 3.Ocean Conservancy: This organization focuses on eliminating ocean pollution, preserving the Arctic, confronting ocean acidification, and advocating. Other than these organisations national parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty are a huge help in preserving habitats and animals. National parks contain forested areas that not only protect water sources, they also help stabilize the surrounding land. These areas also reduce floods, protect habitats along the coast, prevent sea level rise and protect beaches from erosion. More simple but effective ways people and scientists are helping habitats are: recycling rather than dumping waste in landfill sites (many people understand that recycling offers a positive contribution to the ecosystems of the world by reusing or remaking old products into new ones); introducing breeding programs to help preserve endangered species, like the panda; reforestation of burnt and cleared areas (replanting trees prevents soil erosion, restores wildlife habitats and reduces fire risks); creating green, open space laws (many local communities created laws that require developers who build homes and commercial buildings to set aside green, open spaces of land to protect them from development. These protected areas represent positive contributions to the ecosystems.). We can all try doing some of these things to help habitats and animals that are in danger.
