• Self learning requires the ability for a student to
work independently. Self taught students are
motivated by the sense of job well done.
• Learning done by oneself without a teacher or
instructor.
Self learning is the learning that takes place without the

formal teaching of a teacher. It includes the learning of a

subject topic by the students themselves their self

assessments and review of their learning with their peer

group students.
Definition

• A way of learning about a subject that involves studying


alone at home, rather than in classroom with a teacher.
• Learning done by oneself, without a teacher or instructor
• Self-education is the act of learning about a subject or
subjects in which one has had little to no formal
education.
• A person who has learned a subject without the benefit
of a teacher or formal education; a self-taught person
Importance of self learning
The importance of the self learning is

• a) Understanding How to Learn

• b) Learning without External Aids

• c) Preparing for the Future


BENEFITS OF SELF LEARNING

• Student becomes an independent thinker.

• Student learns to accept responsibility.

• Student gains the freedom to learn without restrictions.

• Student earns accountability.

• Intrinsic rewards become the focus, that good feeling

inside that comes from a job well done.


• Student tests well because he is used to tackling
problems on his own, which equals confidence.
• Students retain more naturally when they do the work
versus parents spoon feeding the information into
them.
• Students learn where to go when help is needed.
There is no need to worry about gaps in their
education because if they need to know something
down the road, they will just look it up on their own
• Student has the courage to delve into an area of
interest to study it without having to wait for a teacher
to teach it.
• Students become more than prepared for college study,
which will require motivation and planning ahead.
• Self-learning gives the opportunity to develop a good
work ethic.
• Self-learning allows the learner to go as deeply into a
subject and interact with the subject matter as deeply as
he would like to go.
• Self-learning enables the learner to limit the number of
interests undertaken so as not to be spread too thinly.

without emulating an institution at home

which reduces the possibility of erroneous material.

• Self-learning is the wave of the future now that so much

information is available at our fingertips.

• Self-learning means that babies and toddlers get more

attention from mom because she is not busy playing teacher.


Effects of Self Learning
• It gives the students the skill of learning to learn.
It also motivates them for learning some difficult
subjects.
• It encourages self – motivation and initiatives
for learning. Hence it is useful for life long
learning
• It enables the learner to face the life – situation
since their self learning develops the skill
necessary for facing the difficult life – situations.
Conclusion
Self learning gives freedom to students and gives more
opportunities to the students who are self – motivated.
Students can select books, visuals from the T V shows,
newspaper articles, website downloads etc. for their self
learning. Any student who has interests, initiatives,
motivation, aptitude, concentration and a definite plan for
self learning can learn successfully.
