Adjectives:

FAMOUS / WELL-KNOWN

Tarkan is a very famous / well-known Turkish pop star.

Famous / well-known (adj.): many people know about a famous or


well-known person or thing.
Collocations: FAMOUS / WELL-KNOWN (adj.)

Nouns:
• Famous / well-known singer / actor /actress / country / city / drink / food/ restaurant

e.g. İstanbul is a famous / well-known city. A lot of people want to visit İstanbul.

• There are famous / well-known actors in this movie.

CERTAINLY

If you work hard and study regularly, you will certainly pass your
exams.
Game of Thrones is certainly the best TV show in the world.

Certainly (adv.): if you really believe something is true, or


something will happen, you can use this word to show it.

Synonyms: surely, definitely, absolutely.


Collocations: CERTAINLY (adv.)

Before verbs:

e.g. If you practice regularly, you will certainly learn to play the guitar

• If you work hard, you will certainly have a successful business.

• His voice is amazing! He will certainly become a famous singer.

• When you go out of the building. You will certainly see the supermarket on the corner.

After verb “Be”:


e.g. He is certainly a great musician.

• Downtown Manhattan is certainly the best place in New York City.


INVITATION

We will send out our wedding invitations soon.

Invitation (n.): the action of inviting someone to go somewhere or to do


something.

Some pictures are very strange. It’s hard to understand their meanings.

Strange (adj.): unusual or surprising; difficult to understand or


explain.

Unusual (adj.): something that does not regularly or


commonly occur / something or someone that is
interesting because it’s different from, or better, than
others.

POPULAR

Some people become very popular when they have a lot of


followers on Instagram.

Popular (adj.): liked or admired by many people or by a


particular person or group.
Collocations: POPULAR (adj.)

e.g. Shakira is a popular singer.


• She is the most popular girl in the school.
• Italy is a popular country for tourists.

• Engineering is a popular job.


HEALTH

Everyone should take care of their health.

Health (n.): the state of being free from illness or injury / a


person's mental or physical condition.
Collocations: HEALTH (n.)

Verbs:
• improve / look after / damage health

e.g. Smoking damages health.


• You should look after your health. Otherwise, you will get very ill.
LITTLE

Our big dog always takes care of our little dog 

Little (adj.): small in size or amount.


Collocations: LITTLE (adj.)

e.g. There is a little village behind the hills.
