INTRODUCTION OF ASSAM
Assam, which literally means ' a peerless land', is a gateway to the North East
India. It is a region where nature herself has painted the vibrant landscape,
hillocks, woods, brooks and streams, flora and fauna and above all the
affectionate people.
Assam is situated in the North-East of India and is the largest north-eastern state
in terms of population while second in terms of area. Assam covers an area of
78,438 km2 (30,285 sq miles).

FLORA AND FAUNA OF ASSAM

Assam is a state in North-eastern India known for its wildlife, archeology sites and
tea plantations. In the west , Guwahati, Assam's largest city, features silk bazaars
and the hilltop Kamakhya Temple. Umananda Temple sits on Peacock Island in the
Brahmaputra River. The state capital, Dispur, is a suburb of Guwahati. The ancient
pilgrimage site of Hajo and Madan Kamadeva, the ruins of a Temple complex, lie
nearby
Assam is gifted with varieties of fora and fauna including world famous the Great
Indian One Horned Rhino, Pigmy Hog Royal Bengal Tiger. The birds found in
Assam includes Greater Adjutant Stork, White wingerd wood duck Bengal Florian
There are also other trees like the Lagerstroemia floreginae with its mauve
coloured flowers, the Hill Clerodendrum wous . The numerous water bodies are
rich reservoles of food (including fahl and thousands of ords representing over 100
species, valt the park seasonally from as far afield as Siberia
TYNDALL EFFECT
QUESTION-WHAT IS TYNDALL EFFECT

Tyndall Effect is a phenomenon that involves scattering of a light

beam by fine suspended particles, like water drops, dust particles,
and molecules of air. Tyndall effect is named after John Tyndall, the
Irish physicist who first discovered it. The phenomenon occurs
when a beam of light passes through colloidal/fine particles,
scattering the light and making the particles as well as the path of
the light beam visible. For instance, dust in a room makes the light
beam entering a window visible.
QUESTION-WHY DOES TYNDALL EFFECT TAKE PLACE?

ANSWER-IT IS CAUSED BY REFLECTION OF THE INCIDENT RADIATION FROM

THE SURFACES OF THE PARTICLES, REFLECTION FROM THE INTERIOR
WALLS OF THE PARTICLES, AND REFRACTION AND DIFFRACTION OF THE
RADIATION AS IT PASSES THROUGH THE PARTICLES. OTHER EPONYMS
INCLUDE TYNDALL BEAM (THE LIGHT SCATTERED BY COLLOIDAL
PARTICLES).
QUESTIONS-HOW TYNDALL EFFECT OCCURS IN FOREST OF ASSAM?

ANSWER-WHEN THE SUNLIGHT ENTERS THE DENSE FOREST, THE RAYS OF

LIGHT PASS THROUGH THESE PARTICLES OF COLLOIDS AND GET
SCATTERED. DUE TO THE SCATTERING OF LIGHT, THE PATH OF THE SUN
RAY IS CLEARLY VISIBLE. THIS IS CALLED THE 'TYNDALL EFFECT'

The Tyndall effect is seen when light-scattering particulate matter is

dispersed in an otherwise light-transmitting medium, where the
diameter of an individual particle is in the range of roughly 40 to 900
nm, i.e. somewhat below or near the wavelengths of visible light
(400–750 nm).
TYNDALL EFFECT OCCURS IN A
COLLOID (A HOMOGENEOUS NON-CRYSTALLINE
SUBSTANCE CONSISTING OF LARGE MOLECULES OR
ULTRAMICROSCOPIC PARTICLES OF ONE SUBSTANCE
DISPERSED THROUGH A SECOND SUBSTANCE. )
