The perfect combination of a beautiful and peaceful fairyland interwoven with a splendid cultural heritage
remains nestled on the banks of the longest river in India, the free- owing Brahmaputra. A charming bird-
shaped Indian state with abundant tea gardens, cascading waterfalls, religious sites and hill stations, it can be
aptly named "Awesome Assam". Assam is the central authority of Northeast India and the gateway to the rest of
the Seven Sisters States. Assam is one of the brightest jewels in Northeast India, attracting tourists from all over
the world.
Assam is the rich green land of rolling plains, dense forests, and beautiful rivers. Endowed with fascinating
natural beauty, this destination is a great choice for vacations. Originally known as the Kingdom of Assam.
It is surrounded by several other charming tourist destinations such as Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram,
Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Bengal, and Bangladesh. An abode of rare horned rhinos, red mountains, blue
rivers, and tea gardens make tourism in Assam a great experience. This state is famous for its Bihu festival.

Assam has a rich cultural heritage from the kingdom of Ahom. Assam's history dates back to the stone age. Over
the centuries, various empires ruled it. This state is also mentioned in Buddhist literature, Tantric literature,
Vedic literature, and Assamese folklore. Assam got its name from the Ahom kingdom that developed between
1228 and 1826. After 1838, it became a British province. After 1947, it gained recognition as an Indian state after
1947 which later known as Assam.

Literally translates to Lord Shiva's ocean. It is a historical city, as it was the capital of the Ahom kingdom for about
100 years.
