Armenian is the only official language. Other foreign
languages common in Armenia include French,
German, Italian, Spanish and Persian. Minority
languages include Assyrian, Greek, and Northern
Kurdish.

The word "dram" translates into English as
"money" and is cognate with the Greek

Mount Aragats
Mount Aragats is one of Armenia’s
most stunning natural sights, with the
dormant volcano located in the north
of the country. It is Armenia’s highest
peak and there is a lot of rock art to
be enjoyed around its base, with
paintings of animals and human-like
figures dating back hundreds of years.

Noravank
Monasteries are one of Armenia’s defining
characteristics and the example at Noravank
is one of the most beautiful in the whole
country. Sheer brick-red cliffs shield the
monastery, which was built in the 13th century.

Azerbaijani or Azeri is a language belonging to the
Turkic language family, spoken in southwestern
Asia by the Azerbaijani people, primarily in
Azerbaijan and northwestern Iran.

Icheri Seher
Known as “Old City” and “Fortress”, Icheri
Seher is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in
the centre of Baku, and you will find
amazing architectural feats all over this
protected quarter of the city. These
include Maiden Tower that dates from the
12th century and was part of the ancient
walled city of Baku, as well as Shirvanshah
Palace that was constructed in the 13th
century.

Garasu Volcano
Many visitors to Azerbaijan may not know
that the country has the highest number of
mud volcanoes in the world. 350 to be
exact! One of the best known is Garasu
Volcano, that has been known to spew
mud over 1,000 metres into the air.

Gobustan
Gobustan is often referred to as the
Azerbaijan version of Stonehenge in the
United Kingdom, as it features a prehistoric
cromlech (a circle of stones that have
been positioned vertically). It doesn’t end
there however, as Gobustan is an
archaeological reserve that lies to the
south of Baku and offers a fascinating
insight into ancient civilizations due to over
6,000 rock drawings that span over 537
hectares.

CAPITAL Tbilisi
Its cobblestoned old town reflects a long,
complicated history, with periods under Persian
and Russian rule. Its diverse architecture
encompasses Eastern Orthodox churches,
ornate art nouveau buildings and Soviet
Modernist structures. Looming over it all are
Narikala, a reconstructed 4th-century fortress,
and Kartlis Deda, an iconic statue of the “Mother
of Georgia.”

It is the official language of Georgia and the native or
primary language of 87.6% of its population. Its
speakers today number approximately four million.

It is divided into 100 tetri. The name lari is
an old Georgian word denoting a hoard,
property, while tetri is an old Georgian
monetary term used in ancient Colchis
from the 6th century BC. Earlier Georgian
currencies include the maneti, abazi, and
Georgian coupon or kuponi.

the Israeli shekel, is the currency of Israel and

Akko

a mellow harbor full of colorful, bobbing
fishing boats; a vibrant bazaar crammed
with spice, produce, and interesting artisan
products; and a truckload of history to
boot.
• Palestine is known for some of the most beautiful wildflowers in the world,
popping into existence mostly in April and May. These include irises, jonquils,
wild poppies, and other vibrant species of flowers which paint the colorful
hillsides during a short spring season.
• Christmas is celebrated three times each year. The first of which is December
25th, per western tradition, followed by January 6th per Greek Orthodox
tradition, and finally on January 18th, as per Armenian tradition.
