Note:
Blood types A and B have two possible genotypes – homozygous and heterozygous
Active site
Antigen A
Rules for Blood Type :
A and B are co-dominant
- AA or IAIA = Type A
- BB or IBIB = Type B
- AB or IAIB =
Type AB
“
O “ universal donor
“ AB
“ universal recipient
Example:
A male with type B blood is crossed with a female with type O blood. What are
the resulting percentages for each blood type in two possible scenarios ?
B B

Genotype:
Bi= 100%
B B Phenotype :
B= type B (100%)
i Bi Bi
i Bi Bi

Genotype:
Bi= 50%
i Bi ii ii=50%
Phenotype :
Bi= type B (50%)

BLOOD
Activity 3 : What’s Your Blood Type ?
PROCEDURE :
1. Given the blood types of the mother and the child , identify the possible blood
type of the father.
3. Use the table to answer the following questions, and list all possible
blood types.
GUIDE QUESTIONS:
1. What blood type can be found in an offspring if a
mother has blood type A and the father has type B blood?
2. What blood type can be found in an offspring if a
mother has type AB blood and the father has type A
blood ?
3. What blood type can be found in an offspring if a
mother has type O blood and the father has type B
blood?
EVALUATION:
Use the Punnett square to answer the following problem.
Describe it according to Genotype and Phenotype. ( 10
points)
1. Show the cross between a mother who is
heterozygous for type B blood and a father who is
heterozygous for type A blood.
2. Show the cross between a mother who has type O
blood and a father who has type AB blood.
KEY CONCEPT :
In humans, there are four blood
types(phenotypes):A,B, AB,O
Blood types are controlled by three alleles: A, B, O
O is recessive, two O alleles must be present for a
person to have type O blood.
A and B are codominant . If a person receives an A
allele and a B allele, their blood type is type AB.
ASSIGNMENT:
