Falling Film Technology: What it is?
• Key Features
– Shell and tube construction is utilized to provide the
thermal exchange between water and refrigerant, with
water flowing on the inside of the tubes, and
refrigerant residing on the outside of the tubes and
within the shell
2-phase refrigerant is supplied to the distributor.
The liquid then flows as a thin film around the
tube.
While in resident contact with tubes, some of the
refrigerant is vaporized. The vapor generated in
this fashion is draw upward through the bundle in
the spaces between tubes. After emerging from
the top of the bundle, the vapor travels towards
the suction flange.
A pool of liquid is maintained at the bottom of the
shell and sensed by the liquid level sensor.

– Leaving CDS water temperature control
Allows for CDS leaving water temperature setpoint control. The chiller
will control based on this setpoint.
– Variable flow compensation
Makes the chiller stay in control of the chilled water setpoint, while the
chiller is experiencing variable flow through the evaporator.
