In general the keyway
is the „soft spot“ in the
coupling. Therefore the
hub material plays an
important role.

Stress on Al-D hubs has

especially on smaller

It is under no compression
(incontrast to ROTEX GS).
Spacer buttons
Every 2nd spider tooth has a spacer button on one side in order to ensure
that the coupling is axially free and does not transmit any axial forces or only
little axial forces.

located opposite the keyway,
because the thread needs more
engagement in aluminium than
in steel or cast iron.

4. 标准设计
Design AFN

Design AFN allows to disassemble the


coupling without moving the driving or
driven side. This is often used in Heavy
equipment e.g. steel plants.

The hubs are from steel and are similar


to RADEX-N hubs. Please check the
max bore diameters!!!

The driving flange is either from GGG-40 or from steel, depending on the
size of the coupling. Aluminium is not available.

This style of coupling has to be much more expensive, as there is much


more machining involved and we have more individual parts and more
assembling work.

Design CF and CFN

Flange to hub versions are CF and CFN.

CF and CFN flanges are made from GGG-40.


They are similar to the driving flanges of AFN
but in AFN the flange has threaded holes
whereas in CFN the flange has through holes to
enable the connection to another element in the
power train.

These driving flanges can be provided with no bore pcd, so your customer
can make his own connection, if required.
Design DKM and ZS-DKM

The DKM part (double cardanic


spacer) allows more misalignment. It
makes the coupling obviously longer.
2 more parts lead to higher prices.

ZS-DKM is a special spacer version.


There are standardized spacer lengths
like 100, 140, 180 and 250 mm DBSE
(distance between shaft ends) that are
available for certain coupling sizes.
This coupling is mainly used in the
pump industry, where pump and
motor are mounted
on a baseframe (without bellhousing).
Design ZWN

ZWN is the heavy duty version of a shaft


coupling. The spacer is solid and the weight of
the spacer has to be supported by bearings.
This coupling is available pilot bored and the
customer can make the shaft himself (but
that´s not so easy because of the internal
bearing).
ZWNV is the vertical version which has an add.
axial bearing support.

Design ZR

ZR is the more light version. The spacer is a


standard cold drawn steel tube. ROTEX hubs
are clamped on it. The spiders have to be
ROTEX GS in order to handle the extra weight
(check the torque of the clamping hubs!).

Believe it or not, this is one of our bestsellers. This shiftable coupling is


very often used in assembly lines like in the automotive industry.
Design BTAN

Brake disc couplings (SBAN) and brake drum couplings (BTAN) are
getting more and more important.
Mainly for crane applications, elevator drives and sugar centrifuges.
Design SBAN

Similar design to BTAN, only with disk instead of drum.


Our strongest competitor for both designs is TSCHAN S who is linked to
SIME brake systems. We have a special version that is interchangeable.
We can offer that together with the brake system (Svendborg Brakes).
ROTEX® in stainless steel

It may look the same, but it is used


in special marketplaces:
- food industry
- off-shore
- in humid surroundings
- petrochemical industry

Machining is much more difficult.


Not all sizes available.
For smaller quantities you should
make the machining locally.

Overload 1
You can easily see that
the spider tooth that is under
stress tries to move to the
inside/center of the
coupling. Therefore the
inner ring of the spider is
no longer round.
Overload 2
The spider tooth tries to
slide to the inside along
the jaw of the hub.

This creates a rectangular


shape of the 4 teeth spider
Shock load

Shock loads appear and


disappear very quickly.
there is no time to slide
to the inside. The center
remains round.

The head of the spider tooth


looks like it gets cut off.
The jaw top try to cut it of
like a knife.
Vibrations
Vibrations can make
the spider tooth melt
from the inside.
This melting process
creates internal
pressure inside the
spider tooth. The head
of the spider pops
open and the liquid
PUR material gets out.
The material wraps
around the coupling
and „freezes“. It
looks like Spaghetti.
Misalignment / Offset
If you want to find out
reason for early wear
of a spider, you have to
measure also the
material that is left.
This has to be compared
 with the other spider
teeth. Then you have
the misalignment of
the coupling that made
the spider fail.

E-dimension is
important for ROTEX®

When you see a lot of


material left of the
spider tooth, you can
be assured that there
was a too big gap
between the two hubs
