8
What is Climate
Change
Let’s start with the simplest and easiest
defination
10
“ “ It is a change which is
attributed directly or indirectly
to human activity that alters the
composition of the global
atmosphere and which is in
addition to natural climate
variability observed over
comparative time periods”.

11
Climate &
Weather
First of we should know that
climate and weather aren’t the
same things.

12
weather
⪢ Short term
⪢ Limited area
⪢ Can change repidly
⪢ Difficult to pridict

In other words, what’s happening outside of

our window is weather.

13
Climate
⪢ Long term
⪢ Wide area
⪢ Seasonal changes
⪢ Measured over long spans of
time

Climate is basically the average of

many years of weather observation.
14
The earth's climate is naturally
variable on all time scales.
Any factor that causes a
sustained change to the overall
energy gradient of earth can
lead to climate change – either
warmer or cooler depending
15 on the cause of change.
16
Natural Causes
 Volcanic eruptions
During major
explosive eruptions huge amounts
of volcanic gas, aerosol droplets,
and ash are injected into the
stratosphere. But volcanic gases like
SO2 can cause global cooling,
while volcanic CO2, a greenhouse
gas, can cause global warming.

17
Continental Drift And Earth’s Tilt
⪢ The continental shift led to changes
in ocean circulation and Earth's
climate.
⪢ Perhaps one of the most apparent
factors contributing to Earth climate
change is the angle at which
the earth is tilted.

18
Ocean Currents

Ocean currents act much like a

conveyor belt, Thus, ocean currents
regulate global climate, helping to
counteract the uneven distribution of
solar radiation reaching Earth's surface.

19
Human Causes
⪢ Greenhouse gases
⪢ Deforestation
⪢ Coal mining
⪢ Burning of fossil fuels
⪢ Industrial processes
⪢ Agriculture

What we can do?
All I can say is to have some sense
before it’s too late.
That’s all honestly.
