INTRODUCTION TO MORPHOLOGY

• Morphology: To understand about morphology you need


to see word as a unit that can be analyzed. Working on
morphology is like playing lego. You can make as many
things (words) as you want out of those small parts.

• Word: We should not perceive words as some building
blocks of sentence. No, they aren’t. Word is not only a
part of something bigger like sentence. It can stand on its
own.

Example: happy, learn, mind

Types of
Morpheme Bound (must be attached to the word)
Example: dis (disfunctional), -il
(illiterate), -ment (aggreement), -er
