INTRODUCTION
Augmented Reality (AR)

• Augmented reality is an interactive experience that enhances the real world with computer-
generated perceptual information.
• Using software, apps, and hardware such as AR glasses, augmented reality overlays digital
content onto real-life environments and objects.
• This enriches the user experience and turns one’s immediate surroundings into an
interactive learning environment which is particularly valuable in manufacturing and
Industry 4.0 processes.
• It allows industrial users to become “one” with the systems and machines they work with,
and to optimise and augment technology and IoT networks with human ingenuity,
observation, and creativity.
Applications Of
Augmented Reality (AR)
Pokémon Go:

It uses mobile devices with GPS to locate, capture, train,

and battle virtual Pokémon, which appear as if they are in
the player's real-world location. The game is free-to-play;
it uses a freemium business model combined with local
advertising and supports in-app purchases for additional
in-game items.

As you move around the places where you live and visit,
your smartphone can vibrate to let you know when you're
near a Pokémon. Once you've encountered a Pokémon,
take aim on your smartphone's touch screen and throw a
Poké Ball to catch it—but be careful, or it might run
away!
Sephora AR:
Sephora has leveraged Augmented Reality (AR) by
working with ModiFace to create a proprietary
product so you can try on many different looks –
anytime, anywhere. Sephora’s Virtual Artist app scans
your face to recognize your specific features. This
allows you to see a mirror image of what you look
like with various lipstick shades, eyeshadow colors,
lash lengths, and other standard makeup applications.
All you need is a smartphone with a working camera.

The augmented reality feature currently allows users

to upload a still selfie to virtually try on various
products that can be purchased from Sephora, but the
new update will allow users to view themselves
moving in real time with the digital makeup, with
more effective technology. The update comes from the
developer ModiFace after a survey of non-modiface
and non-sephora apps showed that a 22 percent drop
in conversion rates occurred when the virtual products
did not line up or appear correctly on the user’s face.
IKEA's AR:
IKEA has launched a new augmented reality (AR)
application that allows users to test IKEA's products
in real time through Apple iOS 11's ARKit
technology. Dubbed IKEA Place, the iPhone- and
iPad-compatible free application features
realistically-rendered, true-to-scale 3D products.

The IKEA Place App Design Uses AR Technology To

Add Interactivity To The App Experience. With IKEA
Place, the user can try items from the retailer in their
actual homes using augmented reality. The user
simply points their camera at their surrounding,
specifically wherever they'd like to place an item.
Virtual Reality (VR)
• Virtual reality (VR) is a simulated experience that employs pose tracking and 3D near-eye
displays to give the user an immersive feel of a virtual world.
• Applications of virtual reality include entertainment (particularly video games), education
(such as medical or military training) and business (such as virtual meetings).
• Other distinct types of VR-style technology include augmented reality and mixed reality,
sometimes referred to as extended reality or XR, although definitions are currently changing
due to the nascence of the industry.
• Currently, standard virtual reality systems use either virtual reality headsets or multi-projected
environments to generate some realistic images, sounds and other sensations that simulate a
user's physical presence in a virtual environment.
Applications Of Virtual
Reality (VR)
PlayStation VR2:
The PlayStation VR2 (PS VR2) is a virtual
reality headset for the PlayStation 5 home
video game console developed by Sony
Interactive Entertainment released on February
22, 2023.

Leading up to the PS VR2 release, a display

analyst from the Display Supply Chain
Consultants (DSCC), said that he expect the
upcoming next generation VR headset to have
a display with the highest pixel density on a
commercial OLED panel, with pixel density
"well above 800 PPI".

Oculus Meta Quest 2:
The Quest 2 is a virtual reality (VR) headset
developed by Reality Labs, a division of Meta
Platforms. It was unveiled on September 16,
2020, and released on October 13 as the Oculus
Quest 2. It was then rebranded as the Meta
Quest 2 in 2022, as part of a company-wide
phase-out of the Oculus brand following the
rebranding of Facebook, Inc. as Meta.

It is an evolution of the original Oculus Quest

with a similar design, but with a lighter weight,
updated internal specifications, a display with a
higher refresh rate and per-eye resolution, and
updated Oculus Touch controllers with
improved battery life. As with its predecessor,
the Quest 2 can run as either a standalone
headset with an internal, Android-based
operating system, or with Oculus Rift-
compatible VR software running on a personal
computer.
The SIMS series:
The Sims is a series of life simulation video games developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts. The
franchise has sold nearly 200 million copies worldwide, and it is one of the best-selling video game series of all time.

The games in the Sims series are largely sandbox games, in that they lack any defined goals (except for some later
expansion packs and console versions which introduced this gameplay style). The player creates virtual people called
"Sims", places them in houses, and helps direct their moods and satisfy their desires. Players can either place their
Sims in pre-constructed homes or build them themselves. Each successive expansion pack and game in the series
augmented what the player could do with their Sims.

The Sims series is part of the larger Sim series, started by SimCity in 1989.
SUMMARY
Virtual as well as Augmented
Reality has very Srong Potentials
and maybe they are currently in its
initial stage but will have a very big
role in our lives in future with these
technologies are matured enough
